How does a prepaid card work?
A prepaid card works just like a standard credit card except you have to load funds on it before you can make a purchase. Once your card runs out of money, you’ll have to load more funds on it before you can use it again. And since you load the card with your own money, there’s no balance that you owe and have to pay back.

I just saw that Canada Post offers pre-paid credit cards, which sounds to me like a good substitute for using PayPal for online purchases. Has anyone tried them? Can you recommend them?

Prepaid credit cards usually have lots of fees. Fees to load the card, monthly maintenance fees, etc.

Prepaid credit cards are a rip off. I looked up Canada post’s, and it too is a rip off. “1-time setup fee” of $15. “Monthly service fee” of $3/mo. “Reloading Fee” of $3.

December 2, 2023 -
I’ll be visiting Canada on a tourist visa this year and currently do not have a credit card. I’ve been told that Canada is largely cashless so I was looking for options for a reloadable visa prepaid card that I can use while there, came across Canada Posts offerings.
My question is, is it available to me as a tourist? Can I just go in to a Canada Post and buy one and leave with a card?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Canada is not really 'cashless'. Many Canadians prefer to be Cashless and the majority of locations offer cashless payment, but other than for things like online services, service apps, you know Uber, stuff like that, you can use cash in any store. Oh, wait, Hotels will want a credit card, but they'll want a REAL credit card, cause they need to bill the hell out of you if you wreck the place up.
