Ask Rocky Mountain power for a meter tech visit to check that the meter is working. Ask if there’s a cost associated first. Unplug anything that’s not actively being used (besides fridge etc). Is the air conditioner still being used somehow? If there is something wrong with the meter, ask for a credit on the account so they would have only paid the average cost before the spike. If there’s nothing wrong with the meter then something is suspicious, I work in utility billing and that’s the typical cost for a commercial property, not a residential unit. I literally don't understand what the problem is here. Colder weather may cause you to use more power for heating. Using more power makes your power bill go up. Here's ways to offset or mitigate the higher bill. (I tend to believe that electricity should be a human right instead of a for-profit enterprise but we're obviously not living in a fantasy world so...) More on reddit.com

there's so many variables here.... As a whole our power is very cheap. .10 kWh However things that could run up your bill: using electric heat in winter (vs natural gas - also very cheap) poor insulation inefficient AC Someone here had posted about how they were at the Bigelow and they pool everyones bill into one and you pay your square footage portion of it by how many occupants you have and it was stupid high. I have a 2 bed / 2 bath house and mines stupid low... I pay $120 in summer (i blast ac all day and night), and $35 in winter. I have a natural gas furnace. in short too many variables.
