What is your honest opinion/assessment of RTD (Denver-Aurora-Boulder CSA)
RTD looks like it's very good at getting people to a parking lot next to the freeway, less useful if you want to step off the train and be at a real destination... More on reddit.com
how to use RTD
Hello new guy! I'm an RTD Operator (read: Bus Driver)! We have four levels of fare service which all translate into literail fares as well. They are: Local Fare $2.25 - Any regular local service. There are two types of local fare and they are local or limited. Local makes every stop along a route whereas routes that have a limited bus make fewer stops and are generally faster over a longer distance (15 vs 15L where the L means limited). Paying your fare in cash on the bus you can claim a fare transfer from the Operator which is good for 3hrs from the time of the bus's departure from its start terminal. That transfer will get you onto any other local/limited route until it expires. Local fare and your local transfer will also get you on the literail as long as you are only going from one zone (where you bought the fare) into an adjacent one (i.e. Zone B to A or C but not D). Express Fare $4.00 - Express routes and three literail zones (ABC or BCD). Express routes usually only run during peak rush hours in the AM and PM and usually originate either downtown or in a farflung suburb (47X to Green Valley Ranch near DIA, 116X to Ken Caryl Valley near Morrison, CO, or the 120X to Thorten north of Denver). Express fare will also get you a transfer good on any express or lower fare level route or literail. Some but not all Express Routes have a local fare zone where if you board and intend to alight before the Express portion of the trip you can pay the lower fare level instead. Regional Fare $5.00 - Regional routes and all literail zones (ABCD). Regional routes are letters only and not numbers (B to Boulder, R to Brighton, L to Longmont, etc). These buses use the regional coaches with luggage compartments underneath and go to other cities within the RTD district. You can claim a transfer that is also good on any lower fare level and also good on all literail zones. Some but not all Regional routes have a local fare zone similar to the Express. Skyride fare $9, $11, $13 - The Skyride is the us service to DIA. Unless you're planning on going to the airport I'll skip this part for both our sakes. Bus drivers carry no change or money so all fare payments must be made to the fare box. Fare Boxes do not give change so be prepared with exact change or be prepared to lose some money (people sometimes pay $3 for their local fare because they don't have a quarter knowing they'll lose $.75). You also have the option to buy ride coupons from the service desks at King Soopers and Safeway or at an RTD Station. Each coupon is good for one fare at the purchased level and each book is sold with 10 coupons. These coupons will save you several dollars a week and make it unnessacary to carry change or cash. You can also buy a monthly pass online or at an RTD Station at the Local, Express, and Regional fare levels and this will save you several dollars a month over the coupons. You can purchase a yearly swipe pass which uses an RFID chip to communicate to the fare reader so you can walk on the bus and swipe your card over a pad and is good for all fair levels and literail zones. There are also one, three, and five day passes good for as many trips and transfers as you need at each the Local, Express, and Regional levels. When you board a bus you will pay your fare or display your transfer or pass and then proceed to your seat. The driver drives his prescribed route and makes stops at RTD bus stops when there are people waiting there or when the stop request line is pulled (there are yellow cords hanging in the passenger cabin that you pull to request the next stop). To go from Downtown to the Cherry Creek Shopping center you would board an 83L or a 79L at Civic Center Station at Colfax/Broadway headed to Nine Mile Station. You would likely request a stop at 1st Ave/Steele after the 1st Ave/University stop or at Steele/Ellsworth. More on reddit.com

r/Denver on Reddit: Who can we complain to about RTD service?
November 9, 2022 -
As we all know, sending complaints through the normal RTD customer service channels doesn't work, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if we can reach decision makers directly to address busses and trains that are always late or never show up, infrequent service that is made worse by the cancellations, and indirect routing that means people are waiting for busses then transferring to one or more routes that are infrequent?

Complain to your representative and congress person and ask for proper funding for the RTD so they can actually afford to run more frequent service and hire more drivers, instead of being forced to turn a profit to fund itself
