September 13, 2023Quick question about installing Windows 11 with Rufus
Rufus dev here. Yes, you can use the same media, where you checked the option, on both supported and unsupported PCs. The option does not prevent Windows from using TPM or Secure Boot if they are present. Which means that, on a supported machine, these options do nothing. They only allow setup to continue on an unsupported machine. Once setup is started it will enable all the features of your PC that are available, including TPM and Secure Boot, even if the bypass has been applied in Rufus. So the same media with the bypass enabled can be used on any machine, and does not change how Windows will be installed compared to whether you used a media without the bypass enabled. March 31, 2023Using Rufus 3.20, I was easily able to install Windows 11 on this Acer laptop (which was made in 2010). Notice the CPU is a first-gen intel i5-580m (3Mb L2, 2-cores, 4 threads, hyperthreading, 2.67Ghz-3.2Ghz). I used Rufus to remove all the TPM/RAM/CPU requirements. W11 runs like magic on it.
JFC. I just found this subreddit today. This is my first-ever time using Rufus and my first-ever installation of Windows 11. This was a proof-of-concept experiment just to see if it could be done and how well it would run on such an old laptop. What I didn't count on were the gatekeeping elitists that live on this subreddit and the levels of condescension that I wasn't expecting from sharing my experiment here. You're basically asking if Rufus be used to for USB → ISO conversion (yes, I understand that this is not technically what you are asking, but the link I am giving you still applies) and this is answered in the Rufus FAQ . If you're booting UEFI systems, you can use one of the many ISO creation utilities to convert the media you created in Rufus to an ISO. Or, if you're using a virtual environment that handles VDH/VHDX, you can just use Rufus to write your media to a virtual drive in the first place, and then use that virtual drive for installation. There again, the Rufus FAQ can help you .
