How to migrate from Samsung Pay to Samsung Wallet?
If you are using Samsung Pay, your device may be eligible for Samsung Wallet. To get Samsung Wallet, make sure that you have the latest version of Samsung Pay app and that your phone has the latest software. Download any software updates that may be available from the Settings » About device OR the Settings » Software update menu on the phone.
Updating from Samsung Pay to Samsung Wallet
1. Open Samsung Pay tap on the menu (three horizontal bars on top left corner), tap "About" and tap on "Check for update".
2. If your device is eligible, you will see a prompt to download Samsung Wallet.
3. Click Install to download and install the app update.
Setting up Samsung Wallet after installation
1. Open Samsung Wallet after the update, review and tap Continue to agree to the Samsung Wallet terms of service.
2. You may be prompted to grant permissions required for Samsung Wallet to run. Tap Allow when prompted for any mandatory permission.
*Note: Samsung Wallet requires "Phone" permission to verify your identity and secure your wallet. To understand how Samsung Wallet uses various permissions, please navigate to 'Wallet > All tab > Settings > Permissions' in your phone.
3. You can see your existing payment cards on the Quick Access tab and continue to make payments with these cards without further steps.
4. To use other functionality in the app, you will need to complete Samsung Wallet setup. Click on the "All" or "Perks" tab to get started with the remaining steps as follows.
5. Login to your Samsung Account when prompted.
6. If you registered one or more biometric methods such as fingerprint or iris for your device, you will be prompted to verify it. If not, you will be prompted to register a biometric. Follow on-screen instructions to setup or skip it. Samsung Wallet setup is complete and you can access all features now.
Note:
• Once you update from Samsung Pay to Samsung Wallet you cannot go back to Samsung Pay. You will be prompted to update to Samsung Wallet even if you reinstall Samsung Pay on that device.
• If you use Samsung Pass, after completing a one time migration, you can access all the Samsung Pass features within Samsung Wallet. Open the app, click on the "All" tab and look for Samsung Pass for the features.

After years of having phones, I finally decided to start trying out the mobile wallet services on my S23+. I know there are tons of posts on this topic, but after just playing around with both for a few days, I can't see why Google might be better. First of all, the swipe up from the bottom, even on a locked screen, is a very nice and quick way to launch Samsung. I would imagine there is some way to make a shortcut for Google, but even so, I don't see it being easier than that. The Samsung Wallet interface looks nicer to me, in that you can have your loyalty cards right above your credit cards and quickly scroll through the list, where Google's has them below the cards and you have to click on each one and then go back to get out of it. But the thing I think I like most about Samsung is that once you open it, you can pick the card and then have to authorize it with a fingerprint. I know Google apparently works as soon as the phone is unlocked, but without really using it much yet, I don't know if that sounds like a good idea. There are two main cards I use depending on what I am purchasing. With Samsung, it looks like you can just pick and choose before making the purchase and then authorizing, where with Google, you have a default card set and would have to open up the wallet to change cards. I have a Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and both forms of pay seem to work the same way on the watch where you can easily change cards. So with all that said, can someone give me some reasons why Google is better (other than it working in more countries or allowing more banks. I don't care about that because I am in the US and my cards work on both platforms). Unless I am overlooking something, it just doesn't sound like a good idea to me that you don't have to authorize the card first with a fingerprint in Google.
