I looooove Saybrook Sage from BM. It's just a shade too dark. Any suggestions on how to lighten it or find another close color? The swatch/ samples I have only have 3 colors. I wish it had 4 and would want one shade lighter on it.
Someone mentioned going 75% or 50%?
My house was painted Benjamin Moore Saybrook Sage HC-114 and the door BM Newburyport Blue HC-155 but I didn't take into account the covered porch and the windows on the door which makes the blue look BLACK, hollow, and a little creepy. Please send me your best suggestions. I really like plums or blues but am open minded. Note that the porch will get painted another time. Here is the house in question. Thank you so much!
edit: the house is an 1896 Victorian in Massachusetts if that helps any
BM Jester on the left and BM Carter Plum on the right. I bought these stick on samples and love these colors on my computer screen but too dark on my door.

I just added picture frame paneling around my dining room and looking to paint all the walls/trim etc a grayish green or sage green. Something that’s not too dark nor too minty.
It’s the first room you see when you walk in the house and would prefer to have it look elegant and sophisticated. It’s also connected to our butler pantry which has a black/gold wallpaper in it.
There is also 1 east facing window in the room, so it gets plenty of morning/afternoon light.
Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.
Hi all,
I've been struggling to pick a paint color for my room for months, and it's driving me crazy. I’ve probably spent more on samples than I will on the actual paint.
Some context:
-
The floors will be stained a very dark brown after the walls are painted.
-
I love warm, soft tones — think sage green, terracotta, warm (hopefully not sad) beige.
-
I plan to swap out the current blue accents (rug + papasan cushion) for a terracotta shade.
-
Another room on the same floor was painted Benjamin Moore Honey Hut, and we love it — especially the saturation and contrast with the white trim. See last photo for reference.
I’m hoping to land on a warm sage green that gives good contrast with white trim and works well with dark floors. So far:
-
Prescott Green is the closest I’ve found. I love the depth and contrast, but it leans a bit too blue.
-
Soft Fern seems like it could be perfect, but I’m worried it might be too light.
-
Sage Brush gives off more green than sage.
-
I’m considering grabbing samples of Wind Chime or Guilford Green but I'm not sure if this is a lost cause at this point.
-
I hate Saybrook Sage and Kittery Point on my walls. Saybrook doesn't give sage at all, and kittery is overly bright and juvenile looking on my walls.
Any recommendations (or photos!) would be so appreciated. I just want to love the color and be done with this decision!
I know I can get them color matched but I don't know if I'm looking for these exact colors or similar colors. So would appreciate hearing about a range of colors these could be.
