r/Bedding on Reddit: Costco SilkHaven vs SmartSilk
January 28, 2024 -

Hey folks, I've read a few reviews from this reddit on these two. But can't understand what's the main difference and best one for me.

I am looking for a weighted silk comforter so that I can stop waking up in sweat due to down comforters. I have found these two as options:

  1. Silk Haven: Silk Haven All Natural Silk Filled, Hand-made Comforter | Costco

  2. SmartSilk: SmartSilk Silk Filled Comforter | Costco

Seems Silk Haven is less for a Queen and has Pure Mulberry Silk Fill. So I am leaning toward that but not sure why SmartSilk would be more?

December 29, 2020 - We have 2 silk comforters from Costco. Smart Silk. One in Brooklyn and one at the beach. We love them. I think this is the one we have. The one at the beach is 5 years old and the one in Brooklyn about three years old. We wash it in the washing machine and dry it in our dryer.

r/femalelivingspace on Reddit: I tried a silk filled comforter!
August 5, 2020 -

I am a hot sleeper these days, and I have been working on tweaking my bed to get the temperature optimized. I realized that the bamboo jersey blend sheets weren't working for me. So I moved them out of the rotation. I decided to also revisit my comforter, and I ended up thinking silk might be a good option.

I switched over this weekend, and so far it has been great. I can't seem to find a lot of chatter online about silk filled comforters so I thought I'd share my experience.

I live in the Bay Area, so nighttime lows are actually pretty consistent all year, save a few really cold weeks in winter. So I don't really shift, all-season works for me. And we have some hot days, but other than a week or two, the temps at night are typically 50s-60s. I can add a blanket on the coldest days, but I can't sleep without a comforter. Those predawn hours can be chilly so on the same night I get hot, it'll feel cold by the time I wake up in the morning. I have been known to go to sleep with a fan on and get hot then freezing all in the same night. Which makes temperature regulation extra hard.

Over the few days since I added it, we have had one really warm day, and last night was chillier, and I accidentally left too many windows open so it was extra chilly.

So far so good. For the first time in ages I haven't woken up feeling hot in the middle of the night. And I didn't feel too chilly when I left the wrong window open (the one by my head). I didn't wake up with sniffles like the usual when I do that! Temperature regulation seems to work as well as advertised.

The comforter I got is dense and not fluffy like down. But not too heavy, it has some weight to it and still compresses. I got a cotton cover and am using a cotton duvet cover as well. It feels nicely soft and cozy but not suffocating.

100% recommend for hot sleepers, but I am imagining it will work great for a variety of temperatures. Definitely for "average" temps too. Time will tell on how it handles several super hot days, but it looks like for my normal weather it is going to work perfectly.

Also, apparently silk is great for allergies. And it looks like I won't have to worry about fluffing. :D The comforter I got is machine wash and dry (just with delicate detergent, wash and dry).

Have you tried silk?

Experiences with silk-filled comforters?
I came across a mention of these while looking for posts that mention Pacific Coast brand allergy-friendly down blankets. Never heard of silk-filled blankets/comforters before and am curious to know if they live up to their hype in real-world user conditions .... both for usability and ...
