I used some “heating pellets” in my Bonfire tonight and once I snuffed the fire out I had a ton of residue on the lid and outside.
First, I assume this is because of the pellet I used (won’t do heating pellets again). Second, has this happened to anyone? Finally, is there a way to clean this up?
Thanks!
Heating pellets cannot be the issue. Also, that lid is not for ending the fire.
This is creosote. I had a similar thing happen on a windy night with food grade smoker pellets when I had to cover the pit before the burn was complete. It is extremely flammable. Just burn it off and it will turn to ash and fall away. It is a sticky tar like substance resulting from incomplete combustion, aka smoke.
Recently purchased a home that has a pellet stove and figure this will be a good week to put it to use.
Where is the best place to buy pellets? Any particular brands you prefer or that we should avoid? Are pellets advertised for smokers essentially the same thing?
