Hey everyone. I just bought one of these sony bravia 8 televisons yesterday. Thought i would pop in here with a quick post about it. FWIW and for context, my last TV was a Vizio P-65 F1. For my next TV I narrowed it down to the bravia 8 and the LG C4. Nothing surprising about that i'm sure.
Anyways, I did the usual reading and watching reviews. It really seems to be neck and neck between these two models amongst users. Ultimately I went to a few different stores and scoped them both out in person with my own eyes. Not the ideal setting to judge of course, but it does allow one to get a better idea of what you might be in for with these tv's. I will concede that in store the C4 is a tad brighter. But something about the sony just kept calling to me. Hard to pinpoint what exactly, but just something about the motion and flow, how it looked more fluid and the colors looked richer and deeper. So I ended up taking one home.
I have only had it since yesterday. I spent most of the day and night setting it up. Getting used to the adjustments and what it is capable of. I gotta say, I love what I'm seeing so far. I was worried that it would lack brightness because of the numerous reports that it was too dim, but this TV gets plenty bright after making the proper adjustments. Gotta turn off the ECO setting and turn off the auto adjust brightness feature. Max out the brightness meter and go through and adjust appropriately for whatever picture mode i'm using. I use Cinema for 4k HDR content. Then I went through and customized to my liking. I also like that when i'm watchng a dolby vision movie, it allows me to make separate adjustments specifically for dolby vision.
I'm really a bit baffled about people having a problem with the brightness on this TV seeing as how there is just about any and every adjustment you could ever want, to compensate for any lack of brightness that it might initially have out of the box. I actually find myself going into the picture settings and turning the brightness down because it gets so bright with some material. I have also seen plenty of complaints that dolby vision is way too dark on this TV. Again, when DV content is playing, the adjustments allow for specific DV settings. So I am able to adjust appropriately and get a very satisfyingly bright picture with DV as well.
As far as the picture quality itself, the motion, the colors, the clarity, the wow factor and the pop. To my eyes it's all there in spades. It's really quite the amazing picture quality actually. And so far, I haven't found anything that I couldn't go into the settings and adjust for if I want. Also, I have the Panasonic UB820 4K player. It has HDR optimizer adjustments, as well as it's own picture customization settings that allow me to even further enhance brightness or anything else that I could ever want to adjust for. As of right now i haven't felt the need to go into that, but it is there if i ever do. I'm 100% good and impressed with what the bravia 8 is capable of. Godzilla x Kong, Spiderman No Way Home, Into the spiderverse, Avengers Infinity war and endgame, Aquaman. Just to name a few that I have watched some action/effects sequences on the Sony. They all look better than I have ever seen. With plenty of brightness.
Anyways, I just wanted to share my thoughts on the bravia 8 in case anyone was thinking of getting one. I admit that i can't say, nor am I trying to say, that it's better than the C4 or anything else comparable for that matter. But in my home, on its own merits, compared to my last TV, it's ridiculously good. Maybe I'm easily impressed, but for me it was every bit worth the money i paid. I'm completely happy with it. Thanks for reading and let me know if anyone has any questions. I will do my best to answer.
