We started out DIYing a king. Bought all sorts of different kinds of topper pieces. Eventually we decided we each needed different feels/firmness. So we sliced up all the layers into twin xls. Because my side is firmer than hers, you can definitely feel the difference if one of us rolls onto the other’s side. I either dip down into softer side like I rolled off an edge and she has to climb a bit when she rolls to my firmer side. So assuming you end up a good bit different, you will most definitely notice the split. Now, we put a stretchy mattress cover over it so you don’t fall in between the pieces as they’re snugged together, but it’s obvious where the separation is. We are looking to get a split king adjustable bed. My fiance moves a lot in his sleep and sometimes snores and I’m a light sleeper, and I cannot do memory foam it’s way too firm for me so we want the split king. I’ve looked up countless brands, every brand seems pretty good and then I see threads saying it’s the worst mattress/company of all time. I’m going insane trying to decide on one.
Sleep number is the only one that I can’t generally find terrible reviews for - most people seem to like those beds for a long time or so it seems. Main downside being how pricey it is. Anyone have thoughts on sleep number split king or any other brand recommendations?

Sleep number is an air mattress with some foam on top. You are giving up a lot of support and I believe comfort, to gain the adjustability. I wouldn’t care too much about the automatic snore control either. It would be pretty unnerving for your or your partner’s bed to start moving without notice. You certainly can find a soft twinXL mattress for your side without the unnecessary and frankly undesirable technology. If you have a local non-chain mattress store or a factory showroom you and your partner should be able to check out appropriate options. Any mattress whether innerspring, latex, memory or hybrid that is comfortable for you should work. You should be careful to reasonably match the heights of your individual mattresses.

Wife and I got a King size Purple RestorePlus Hybrid that we love. However my wife is a back sleeper and prefers 'zero g' on the adjustable base, I'm a side/stomach sleeper and prefer flat.
She wants to trade in for a split king (our base is already split) but I'm hesitant. Our kids and dog often climb into bed and lay between us, and I'm worried about the crack between the two mattresses gobbling them up.
My wife thinks the crack isn't an issue and the bed would still feel like a single king. Anyone have input?

Bought a split Cali king this summer with a L&P adjustable base. Highly recommended for sleeping. Can't be beat. Terrible for everything other than sleeping. Tile floors. I failed to fully appreciate an adjustable split king is literally two separate beds pushed up against each other and nothing anchors the two together. Mind the gap. Def a no-go if you're a frequent spooner. You might have better luck on carpet or a traditional frame. Even on a traditional frame, though, the gap between the two mattresses won't meet perfectly and seal. It will always be there like the cushions on a couch. Good luck!

Split king is all pro and no con! You both get what you want and everybody is happy. We have a cheap strap from Amazon and they never budge apart.

Anyone here actually have a split king mattress? If so I am looking to hear about your experience with them? Was the space/gap in between the mattresses ever an issue or annoying? Do you wish you would have a full sized king?
We are worried that maybe it won’t be so enjoyable as it sounds, considering the gap in the middle. And also we feel like it might make it hard for our children and dog to sleep with us from time to time or lay down in the same bed as us and watch movies.
We are also interested in getting the split king bases as well. Right now we are looking into both the Tempurpedic and Sleep Number models.
Any feedback would be great. We don’t want to make any mistakes the first time around, considering the price tag!!!

I love my split king. I sleep better and we keep a few inch gap on our adjustable frames. I ruin mattresses and she doesn't.. I bought a 4.6k intellibed midnight and she is still on last year's purple 4 and my old one is in the trash. For sex it kinda sucks but I'd rather sleep perfectly then worry about that. My wife is a crazy sleeper. And now I sleep better without disturbance.

I have the ghostbed split king. We got it becaus my fiance is a snorer and wants to be able to adjust his bed on the adjustable frame whereas I don't. I'm not a cuddly sleeper so I thought the space would be good. I HATE it. The gap has driven me completely insane. My dog wakes up in the gap every single morning. He's 85lbs so I'd assume it would do the same thing with children. I'm not a cuddle sleeper but we can't cuddle at all or we disappear into the abyss. And sex is super annoying because one wrong move? Into the abyss we go.

The handy-guy came over and set up the bed frame and put the mattresses on it. I allowed the requisite time for the foam to expand. However, one mattress was substantially longer than the other. It was cupping, I believe from it being too large for the cover. I called the manufacturer, Novaform. They were very nice to work with and sent a replacement. I thought they were going to send just the one mattress.
