Hi guys, I'm thinking about printing business cards at Staples, I have never done it at Staples before and just wanna hear for those of you who have experience: if there is anything I need to know before I go in? Is it possible that I go to Staples to look at the card samples before I place order online for same day pick up? What else to look out for? Thanks!

We can show you samples of what we can do in store. Either 12pt. gloss, 12pt. matte, or 110lb. Cougar. If you already have a card designed save it as a PDF or JPEG on a flash drive and bring it to the store so we can download it.

Things you’ll need: the file of your business card. preferably PDF or JPEG formats on a flash drive— having it on your phone or laptop is fine but it extends the process time because you’ll have to email it and that can be finicky. if you don’t have a already-made file of your card, I would reccomend looking through the templates of cards on the print and marketing website PRIOR to coming in and trying to make an order online yourself, which is VERY easy. The website literally walks you through the process. Yes, you can look at paper samples, in fact there should be a booklet you can look through if your store still has it (my store had to throw ours out because a woman spilled coffee on it). Same day pickup is supposed to be guaranteed as long as you place the order before 2PM… but honestly, lately corporate has been giving stores less and less hours to work with and more and more work on top of the associates who are clocked in. I would honestly try not to expect same day pickup as a guarantee, but more as a nice surprise. We WANT to do your order as fast as possible, but for some stores it’s just not feasible. Please be nice and patient with the associate working with you, I would bet money on it that they will be having a rough day/week/month working at staples.

What do customers not get about the four hour turnaround time for business cards/posters/banners etc? Calling me every 20 minutes to see if your order is ready is not going to make it get done faster! It makes me want to do the opposite.
Especially insistent when their cards want to shift around every time when they get cut. White border on the top, white border on the sides... It takes time, customer who is a PITA!

I just usually say we usually ask for 4 hours for same day products, but that we complete orders in the order they are received and I'll give them a call when there order is ready for pick up. I get a lot of people who place orders after 2pm and I have to explain to them that same day orders placed after 2pm are pushed to next day. I'm not playing around with people who who try to rush me because they didn't plan ahead and the need this like now. nope. oh and I ask for extra time with banners usually tell customers that I'll give them a call when its done cause they are a bitch to print and cut. I've had to reprint numerous banners because cutting errors and bad batches of grommets.

Same thing happened to me in tech before I held a meeting with management and asked them to get someone else to screen all my phone calls. Customers would call in sometimes 3-4 times a day wondering why no one has "kept them updated" on every step of their computer diagnosis. My answer every time was a canned response of "sir, ma'am, I would love to have someone available during all open hours to direct phone calls and provide timely status updates just as much as you, but alas, we are not provided with manpower for this. You're certainly welcome to call the store anytime, as I'm more than happy to answer questions, but please note every minute I spend on the phone is a minute I could be working on your computer. I'll call you with an update as soon as I have a definitive results."
