I've had good luck thrifting cashmere and merino sweaters for under that price. However! They will shrink without proper care. My advice is to always wear something underneath (a camisole, a thin tee, etc), then you can lightly spritz them with vodka between wears and air them out. I only wash my sweaters a couple times a season. I hand wash cold with castille soap and dry on a sweater board over the tub. Uniqlo extra fine merino wool stuff. 100% wool but soft, machine washable, and doesn't fade. My oldest one is about 3 years old now and has barely pilled even though I wear it all the time (and I wash it after every wear too because I work in a healthcare setting). I have two of their slim fit turtlenecks but I think they have some other styles too.
