Something is missing - If your wife got a raise then her take-home pay should not be less. Yes a part of her income might be taxed higher but overall the net take home should still be higher. Go through the paystub & make sure there's nothing else you're missing. I'd also recommend watching any YouTube video on 'Marginal Tax rate' to quickly understand how tax brackets work. What some folks do is put any income that falls within a higher tax bracket into their RRSP which reduces their marginal tax rate. More on reddit.com
These are Canada's new tax brackets and income tax rates in 2024
In 2024, the first $55,867 would be taxed at 15 per cent ($8,380.05) while the remaining portion would be taxed at 20.5 per cent ($847.26). In total, that adds up to $9,227.31. Fuck me seeing it typed out like that is depressing as fuck then add in provincial tax, CPP and EI contributions, GST/HST, carbon tax, fuel tax, property tax,sin tax, and I am sure I have missed a few in there Edit :So I worked out payroll withholding for AB on 60k would be just over 20k More on reddit.com
Does being in the highest tax bracket diminish your desire to work harder?

Working 60-70 hours a week is rediculous and leaves you no time to live life, what's the point in all the money if you aren't able to enjoy it. A doctor who can live the life they want off less patients will choose to have less patients. More on reddit.com
