Getting a lot of ads recently for "barefoot writers club" and it piqued my interest, as I'm sure it has many others who've seen it. So I looked it up and saw... mixed reception. Regardless of that, I did some independent research and yeah, it's a complete blatant and total scam. I'm only mentioning them here purely because I only started getting them after I browsed some freelance writing material on my phone, so they're probably doing some tight demographic marketing and you all are probably getting the same ads I am.
To start off the writer of the sales pitch claims to make six figures a year as a freelance writer, but can't even write.
Paul was the one of the founders of a group called the American Writers & Artists Inc. … Or AWAI, for short. He was writing to invite me to join a new group with a very unusual name …
That's one of the big errors I found when skimming it, I'm sure there's more but I can't be assed to. Generally, it's all very sloppy, obnoxious, and not in any way shape or form good writing.
Some of their patently bullshit claims:
"15 Minutes a Day Earns $4,500 a Month!"
Claims that the founder of the writing club started making $300k/yr a year into writing with no previous experience
You can get paid $15,000-$55,000 for writing a single piece of junkmail (?)
Generally that this scam subscription will improve your income in any way shape or form
tl;dr: Barefoot writing club (though they seem to be branding themselves as "barefoot writers" in their ads) is a scam. They're running a lot of ads now. If you or anyone you know is considering paying $108/yr for a subscription please stop that.
