Both involved dinosaurs, both series ended on an unresolved cliffhanger involving the appearance of numerous time distortion anomalies, and in both a character travels back in time through one of these anomalies only to be attacked and killed by a dinosaur, an event that inspires the key scientist character to investigate the dinosaurs in the first place.
