I haven't seen many reviews online for this laptop, which is strange. Seems like a product line refresh would garner some attention. We ordered a few for the office and tested them out.
First off, this laptop absolutely slaps performance-wise. I usually run through the list of installers and listen as the poor laptop fans slowly ramp up to max in a manner of minutes. Previous iterations, the p50 through 15 gen 2 slowly got better but all struggled with things like windows updates and doing much else. Not so with the P16. It easily churned through installs, updates and more without ramping up the fans hardly at all. I credit that to the E cores and much better cooling of the laptop in general.
The screen is bright, almost painfully so, which is great for those of us that lug this monster outside or in the car (still salty Lenovo does not have a car charger over 65W). Having DDR5 memory is nice plus, though I am not convinced that it is better. First iteration and all that; it's the whole ddr3 -> ddr4 all over again.
Now for the rant downsides. Why did Lenovo remove the ethernet jack? It is a desktop replacement laptop, it should have everything you need. Last gen featured a 2.5G port, why not this gen? I don't care what people have to say about the cooling taking all of the space, it does not warrant removing the ethernet jack.
On that note, they removed most of the expandability. Only 1 ssd? You have got to be kidding me! DESKTOP. REPLACEMENT. Not an ultralight, not a thin and light, DESKTOP REPLACEMENT. I am probably in the minority of people who have a second, or third, ssd in their laptop for large files to partition off their OS drive from their data drive. I bemoan the loss of the expandability to this otherwise tank of a laptop.
Just to be sure, we will be buying more of these. The efficiency and performance just cannot be understated. But, I will probably be stuck on the P15 Gen 2 till they add back at least 1 of my precious nvme slots
Edit: looks like there are 2 ssds, which is more than 1. Thanks u/ibmthink for pointing that out
