Hello, I am open to any used or new thinkpad. Budget around $1100. Prefer a 16 inch but a 14 inch is also fine since i use external monitor most of the time.
If anyone knows of a good deal on a used one on ebay then plz let me know. Thnx
I used to have a T420 which worked for 10 years ( I upgraded RAM and SSD etc) then I bought the T490 used from ebay but it didn't even last a year and had multiple issues.
I am still open to ebay or any reliable seller. I would want to edit videos for my gopro, davinci software, use lightroom. don't do any gaming. I would rather save the money if I can but there are so many choices on ebay used that i don't know which one is a good deal or if the latest T14 should be the one to be bought . I just one future upgradeability and reliability etc

So I want to buy a ThinkPad that falls within my price range ($800) but I can't find any new one that meets my requirements. So I am considering a refurbished one from BackMarket or Ebay.
But I am concerned if the laptop will have a long life. The ThinkPad I am eyeing falls between $700 to $800 so it is a lot of money for me because I am a student and I will be buying it from my loan money.
Are refurbished ThinkPads reliable? Would love to hear your experience with a refurbished one!

High tier thinkpads (like T series) are in general very reliable. A simple search around here would answer this quickly. On the other hand, No one knows if what you are buying was abused or already failing. What matters is that the seller is going to help you in case of a problem. Or that you have easy access to parts and fixes. Select and buy accordingly

I keep hearing people say ThinkPads are the only laptops that stay reliable even when refurbished.
I’m looking at a Lenovo ThinkPad T series with i5 8th gen specs but I’m not sure if it’ll last me through coding bootcamp and beyond.
Has anyone here used refurbished ThinkPads for dev work?

ThinkPads are one of the few laptops where refurbished can still be a good value. The older T and X series are business machines meant for durability. Just make sure it has an SSD and at least 16GB RAM if you want smooth dev work. I’d recommend buying from a seller that gives you at least a 90-day warranty. Refurb laptops are a gamble but a warranty helps if something shows up later.

Hi, yes I've used a T480 with an i5 8250U for plenty of dev work. I got it second hand and it was completely fine. I'd honestly reccomend going for something at least slightly more modern these days though (like a Ryzen T14) unless you really can't afford it.
