Coursera vs Udemy: Which Should You Choose? | Course Report
September 24, 2025 - I didn’t think that another degree would prepare me for the real world in that length of time, so I started learning Python on Coursera to see if I liked coding.” · ➡️ Our takeaway: Udemy has a wide variety of free classes taught by experts, and also offers free previews of its paid courses through its 30-day money-back guarantee. But if you’re really in a cost-crunch, you might have better luck with Coursera, where most courses can be taken completely free if you choose not to receive the certificate of course completion.

Coursera or Udemy?
If you want structured paths with a real capstone, Coursera’s big name tracks are better, especially for data stuff, but they can be slow and a bit academic. Udemy is hit or miss, look for high rated instructors and recent updates, it’s great for quick skill gaps and project based tutorials. Do a small project per course and put it on GitHub, then apply while you’re learning, waiting to feel “ready” takes forever. Also, the market is rough and there’s a lot of ghost listings on the big boards, if you’re open to remote roles, wfhalert is a simple service that emails vetted postings like support or junior web dev so you can focus on applying without wading through junk. Should I do Coursera or Udemy first?
I have done both courses myself .. and I would say that andrew ng course is way better than Udemy course .. andrews course contain more of theoretical and concept building style, but is also very praticle if you do all the assignments and quizes yourself .. the only downside is that all the assignments are in Matlab/Octave when i should have been in Python .. It also quite an Old course but nevertheless its my fav ML course .. If you want to get an understanding about the learning path watch this video https://youtu.be/Cr6VqTRO1v0 More on reddit.com

Usability of Moodle vs Udemy vs Coursera vs SkillShare vs Degreed
Its a good question and one that is relevant to many teachers. I use Moodle and don't know much about the others, so will paste in some Wikipedia research. Moodle: Started in 2002. "Moodle is a free and open-source learning management system (LMS) written in PHP and distributed under the GNU General Public License. Developed on pedagogical principles, Moodle is used for blended learning, distance education, flipped classroom and other e-learning projects in schools, universities, workplaces and other sectors." Udemy Started in 2011. "Udemy is an online learning platform. It is aimed at professional adults. Unlike academic MOOC programs which are driven by traditional collegiate coursework, Udemy uses content from online content creators to sell for profit. Udemy provides tools which enable users to create a course, promote it and earn money from student tuition charges." Coursera Started in 2012. "Coursera works with universities and other organizations to offer online courses, specializations, and degrees in a variety of subjects." Skillshare: Started in 2011. "Skillshare is an online learning community for people who want to create educational videos. The courses, which are not accredited, are available through subscription. The majority of courses focus on interaction rather than lecturing, with the primary goal of learning by completing a project." Degreed Started in 2012. Degreed is an education technology company that is engaged in enabling and recognizing professional and lifelong learning and skills. The platform allows users to learn, develop and measure their skills. Degreed is free for individuals. An enhanced version, Degreed for Enterprise, connects internal learning and talent systems to worldwide ecosystems of free, open and paid learning resources, and is available to organizations for a fee as a hosted, cloud-based solution." r/cscareerquestions on Reddit: Coursera or Udemy?
February 20, 2024 -

I’m looking to learn new tech skills and possibly brush on the current skills that I have. I was hoping that I can have better skills first before applying for positions so employers won’t see me as totally useless. I have already graduated just last year by the way.

So now, I’m thinking to self-learn, but idk which one is better, Coursera or Udemy? I opt for a self-pace online courses, as I have other personal commitments too. But I also intend on working on some sort of capstone project at the end of the online course, and then receive some sort of professional certification upon completion.

Any tips or recommendations? I saw that Udemy courses are kinda pricy but some times offer discounts. Coursera is doing this subscription model, so idk what’s best. Any advice is highly recommended.

P.S. I was mostly into data science, data analyst, machine learning, and research-oriented roles. But due to how bad the job market is, I have decided to be more open with other roles such as web developer, software developer, and any other tech/IT-related role (I have a few but not so rigorous skills I have picked up in the past) just to get my foot in the door.

Tldr: I want to do a self-pace online course to learn new tech skills, hone my current skills, do a culminating project, and earn some certification. And idk which platform to go to, Course or Udemy.
