February 4, 2022 - She can be a Maria who follows the crowd and loses herself; she can be any old Maria, a loose woman, and get lost in life; she can be a Maria and fight in the* war, killing many; she can be a Maria without a face, who did not manage to become somebody; she can be Maria mother of Jesus of the Roman Catholics and spend the rest of her life weeping over the loss of her beloved son and believing he is the Messiah; or she can be a Maria like me, who never really was a Maria. I am not a common or indeterminate person. (*it is 'the war' because she refers to WWII throught the book.) So, at the end, she says she is not a common or indeterminate person (literal translation), indeterminate meaning undefined.

Undefined - Definition, Meaning & Synonyms | Vocabulary.com
You can tell just by looking at it that undefined means "not defined." But you might be surprised that the root define comes from the Old French word defenir, meaning "to end, terminate, determine." In this case, define carries the meaning of "determine," but in a sense "end" and "terminate" apply as well.

r/askpsychology on Reddit: Is there a term for the feeling that some undefined person should be around, even though everyone who should be there is there?
March 31, 2022 -
I hope I can explain this in a way that is understandable.
Imagine mom, dad, and the kids are getting ready to sit down for dinner, when suddenly arises the vague thought that someone else should be there. But they are not there. Someone is missing. Can't quite say who, but someone who ought to be there is not.
But a moment's thought later determines, "Nope, everyone who is supposed to be here is here. It's just us and it's only supposed to be us. We're all here. No one else should be here."
Is there a name for this phenomenon?

Sounds like Freudian fetishism. Freud had some non-sexual ideas about fetishes, and this sounds close. If you were to have company over, or one of the kids were to have a significant other over for dinner, then the feelings of lack would disappear, and be subsumed by engagement with the new person/people. Fetishism has a mostly sexual meaning nowadays, but it’s really about looking for people and objects (or people AS objects) to fill a void.
