So I shipped out 2 playing cards yesterday. The package weight was .33 oz and used a bubble mailer. Can anybody tell me why the heck ups charged me 30 dollars to ship them to Texas from Ohio ? Am I missing something or what?
I brought my return to UPS and they tried to charge me $6 for a soft envelope to ship it back in. Attached are my return instructions.
We had a complex pack job (have had a few similar ones of this size in the past) and we always run into the issue of the customer complaining about packaging cost.
The item was some sort of decorative art piece. The only way I can describe it is similar to an octopus lol. There was a main piece and then 8 or 9 smaller pieces connected to the main one by strings.
We had to individually wrap the smaller pieces and the main piece and secure the strings safely.
It took 3 people a couple of hours. We had to telescope 2 of the 25 cubed boxes. The final dimensions were 51x28x28 and it weighed 60 pounds.
The customer was shipping it from one of her house to her other house on the opposite side of the country. Shipping cost came out to be about $570 (ground). For reference, we are in California and wages are $18 to 23.
For labor and materials, how much would you have charged?
Edit: they ended up not shipping with us because they found the total shipping + packing cost too outrageous but they did pay for packing
Hi, I’ve been using Pirate ship to send UPS packages for a couple months now, but today my quotes look insanely expensive. These are padded 11x9 envelopes to send within the US. Everything under 1 pound. Is this normal? Thanks
Does anyone want to chime in their opinion on pricing and the cost effectiveness of having UPS pack a couple of computer monitors and systems I might sell? In your opinion, is it worth it? Also, with the understanding that all locations charge differently and all computers (all-in-ones and standalones) require different supplies, what are some fees to expect vs doing it myself?
I need to ship out a 5000 card box. I'd rather it be in another box with bubble wrap or something. I was going to take it to UPS later but unsure of how it works. I'd imagine something that heavy and big would be about $20 ground? Will UPS package that into another box for me? Or would I have to pay for it?
I have never used UPS to pack and ship.
What should I figure for packing a framed 27 3/4" x 20" picture? (packing, box only)
Get gang...
I'm using Stamps.Com (for 10yrs or so now)
I normally sell/ship small items (like coffee mugs, shot glasses, barware, etc..). About half of my stuff ships under 1lb so I send it USPS first class ($4-6). The other half is just over 1lb but less than 2lbs. I use padded bubble mailers and a 7x5x4 Uline Box (fits inside the bubble mailer... barely!). $8.45
Once in a while I sell something bulkier and heavier (like maybe a cast iron skillet, or waffle iron). Today I was shipping an item like that... It was 6-1/2 lbs, 16x10x7. Going from AZ to Maryland (lotsa zones away)
USPS was $29! Oof. (Item didn't fit in any flat rate boxes)
So, Stamps now offers UPS.. so I checked. 4-day ground was $15, and 3-day was $23.
Dang.. that's like HALF!
So, what's the catch!?
I have read horror stories of huge adjustment charges, but I made sure to enter dimensions... And it's not really big enough to be a "dimensional weight" problem.
Anyone had a big adjustment charge back after the fact when quoted a low up front rate on stamps?
TL:DR - are UPS Express envelopes in store supposed to be free if you are paying for UPS Express service?
Bit miffed and I should have caught this before I paid and drove off because I would have inquired right then and there.
Needed to send something UPS 2 day so I stopped by my local UPS Store, no UPS express envelopes out in the lobby so I just said I need to send this Express can I have an envelope please. Was pointed to the non-UPS envelopes in the lobby that cost $$$, no thanks its simply a cashiers check and can fit in the standard UPS express envelope. He digs one out of the back somewhere - ya know standard size cardboard thing. Rings me up and I pay and go on my happy way.
After I leave I am reviewing my receipt and was charged $3.50 for a Tyvek envelope, wait what? Yeah $3.50 isn't even worth my time to go back and complain about but for me it is the principle behind the sneaky up charge. If I am wrong about the Express envelopes being part of the shipping cost I will slide away quietly but I feel like that is not the case.
This was on Tuesday for a Wednesday delivery. Went to my local UPS Store. I provided the box myself. Was charged $500 for an overnight service. Had no choice as I was shipping perishables. Is this normal or did I get ripped off?
We charge $2.99 + tax as the "email fee" and charge $.20 per page after the first. $.70 if color copy.
Our customer computer is also not working, as I'm told my, and was wondering what everyone else's charges.
Surprisingly almost all customers who are told about this printing fee pay for it, very few freak out. Is this a good amount to charge?
i want to mail a letter to Snapchat HQ and I don’t know which mailing service to use. I have a UPS and a USPS near me. Note that the UPS has 4.7 stars and is 0.9 miles away but the USPS has 1.6 stars and is 0.6 miles away so the USPS is relatively closer to me. What do I choose?
A little background: I am sponsoring a really poor family in the Philippines and I sent a gift to them (weighing 12 lbs) to arrive before Christmas. I wanted it to arrive as soon as possible so I chose the Worldwide Expedited service.
I guess I am super naive: This is my first time sending a package to the Philippines and when the worker showed me the quote of $987 (plus packaging, which came out to be over $1000), I thought that this was standard (I mean, the worker was so cavalier about it). So I accepted the price.
I am wondering why UPS has a cost of $905 for Worldwide Expedited service. My family was really shocked to hear about the cost. I was told that it doesn't cost this much. I went back to the store and said that there might have been an error in the system and that it shouldn't cost around $1000 to send a package to the Philippines, but the worker said to me: "Here, it does."
Does UPS do a price hike during the December holiday season? I just want an answer to why it is so expensive.
Edit 1: I got a quote from the UPS website and it says that $278.38 - so I am wondering why the store charged me triple that value.
I'm a gen z New Yorker and have rarely ever needed to mail something myself, and the whole process confuses me. I've recently started an Etsy, though, so it's probably best that I figure it out. The thing is, I'm kind of baffled about all the different types of USPS/UPS mail services (priority, priority express, first-class-etc.). I know that some ship faster than others and they cost different amounts, but that's the extent of it. Like, how do I mail something to ensure a specific service is used? Is it based on price, or what box I put it in? How do I know if I'm paying the right amount for something (I'm using forever stamps btw)? Does shipping something internationally have a different process? I would really appreciate it if someone could walk me through these things assuming that I really don't know anything about mail, because I'm having trouble finding a straightforward answer online. Thanks!
Edit: At the moment I'm not sending any big packages, only small things that can be sent in envelopes. I mostly need clarification for anything regarding mailboxes hehe
These are not flat rate. The price is exactly the same if you use UPS packaging or your own packaging. If you use your own packaging AND you also stick it in a UPS Pak, you're getting charged for the extra weight and dimensions that the Pak adds.
This is the exact opposite of Fedex Express. All Fedex Express packaging is flat rate. It is always cheaper to ship in Fedex packaging than it is to ship a box. Fedex also provides negotiated flat rates if you use their packaging. They really want you to use their packaging.
Can an account rep give me flat rate or reduced rate if I use UPS packaging? Does that even exist? If that's not possible, why would anyone ever use UPS packaging for any reason?
Edit: I know 'UPS Simple Rate' exists, but the rates are terrible and they make it clear that negotiated rates do not exist. Are negotiated rates on UPS Simple Rate possible?
