UPS Standard US to CANADA
Shipping from US to Canada - careful with UPS!
DO NOT Ship UPS to Canada
Heads up all UPS Shipments from Canada to the US Are frozen
I bought a headphone in Sennheiser Canada but I didn't know that they ship the items from US to CANADA. I would like to know how long does it usually take from US to CANADA via UPS Standard. Also I keep seeing that people are getting fees. I'm not sure if it's still the same applies? Is it the standard?
I had a sale of X-Wing miniatures I was sending to a buyer in Canada.
I use pirate ship for shipping, and so me and the buyer agreed to use UPS Standard as it was the cheapest option at $25. I filled out the customs form, dropped it off, and went on with life.
About a week later I got a message from the buyer, they were being told by UPS they needed to pay a $70 BROKERAGE fee.
Apparently with UPS Standard they charge a brokerage fee for anything above $40 in value - and these fees can be ... outsized. I was told (but can't verify) that UPS Expedited gets rid of this brokerage fee.
I'm also told (but can't verify) that there is a much smoother transition between USPS and Canada mail, so going USPS is ideal. Unfortunately, I just quoted shipping to another buyer in Canada and it's $32 UPS Basic. $39 UPS expedited, and $55 (!) for USPS. So I suspect we'll be finding out if UPS expedited is the way to go :p
(Resolution with the first sale involved multiple calls to UPS, filling out a new customs form, and then the buyer having to jump through hoops as the adjusted charges were never conveyed to the driver - and then eventually they had to go and pick the item up at a drop off ... it was a headache for everyone involved but eventually they got their items)
I have owned a small business in the past few years so overall I am quite familiar with shipping rates, options, and charges.
Especially if you are ordering for personal use I vehemently recommend against using UPS to import anything into Canada. Their brokerage fees have become so high as to be asinine. For example On a $350 dollar package they charged $80 JUST to broker the package and that was on top of $50 of HST - so close to an extra 40% extra on the item cost.
They refused to remove the charge. I have no problem paying HST/Duty but this charge is what amounts to an extortion racket to get the package across the border - which you can plainly tell by the fact that they calculate it based on the value of the shipment. When I called they said I was welcome to broker the package myself which would mean filling out customs forms AND driving to the nearest border to pick up my package. No, I am not joking.
Other companies (DHL, FedEx) charge brokerage fees but not anywhere close to as high. It is basically a racket that is saying pay us or go and get your package yourself at the border. I am unsure if I will use UPS again if they do not fix this and drop the charges.
Edit: there are other people in this thread who have reps saying it is merely a delay.
Edit 2: My shipment just got released and popped up in Seattle. Total was a 4 day delay.
So far UPS only not Fedex, but unfortunately We Are One ship via UPS.
Due to the ongoing trade war... All UPS shipments com Canada inbound to the US are frozen. This means my sweet sweet wheels are caught at the border.
Figured I'd give other US folks a heads up in case they have toys inbound from our friendly neighbors to the North.
Service Alert here:
https://www.ups.com/ca/en/service-alerts.page
While the Service Alert says delayed, after a couple conversations with UPS, I was told that everything was effectively frozen with no real information about when things would be released.
I have a package from a company in Texas that i'd like to get ASAP. They let me know UPS will actually be cheaper for shipping than Canada Post, and asked if I want them to send it through UPS. Do y'all know if UPS is still delivering in Canada? Heard UPS and Purolator are on temporary freeze or something.
