They’re as useless as usps is as a whole. They’ll tell you after the 6 months passes that basically it’s your fault something was lost. Zero accountability. They never look into anything it’s just an automated system. Answer from UncannyAnomaly on reddit.com

r/usps_complaints on Reddit: Has anyone had success with a "Missing Mail Search" on USPS?
December 22, 2022 -

I had a fairly valuable priority mail flate rate bubble envelope shipped to me. The package was initially scanned in at a distribution center in NY. There were no updates for a week and I submitted a help request form.

USPS actually called me (which surprised me) and stated there has not been a physical scan for a while. She said I should file a "missing mail claim" and they she flagged the shipment. She continued that sometimes just flagging the package will have it moving again. I submitted the missing mail form last week, but there have not been any updates on it.

I have a small hobby business and ship USPS A LOT. I've had packages take a long time to be delivered, but I've never ran into a package having a single scan then never having an additional scan for multiple weeks. At this point, I'm wondering if I should keep patient or submit an insurance claim? There is insurance on the package, but the contents are sentimental as well as valuable and I'd rather have the package.

Has anyone submitted a Missing Mail Search with USPS and have it work? Additionally, if anyone has any input on filing an insurance claim, I'd be interested in that as well. Thanks!

After multiple days of continuously stating "moving through network" after arriving to the Fairburn, GA facility, I was convinced to submit a missing mail search based off of others advice in this subreddit. Low and behold I wake up this morning with the package making progress. Second picture is the Fairburn facility at the bottom, and the Palmetto facility at the top. Crazy that it took 4 days to travel 2.4 miles!

Don't rely on USPS to sort things out on their own, valuable lesson learned. It's unfortunate that I'm having to take time out of my day to help them do their job. This has given me unnecessary stress and anxiety to deal with, and has even gotten to the point of losing sleep over worry.

Due to this, and the plethora of other issues that are currently affecting the USPS, I have decided to temporarily close my online store that I own. I can not possibly rely on a company that is this complacent to have my customer's best interests in mind.

Sorry for all that are experiencing issues, and I truly hope your packages arrive soon. DO BETTER USPS!

January 29, 2025 -

Goto USPS.com and login. After you are logged into the site, visit this URL directly: https://missingmail.usps.com/#/

Using this method, I can get it to load every single time. When you click the link from the "missing mail and lost packages" page, the URL gets encoded with some sort of tracking tag which is what is causing the page to not load properly (potentially). When you use the link I provided, it bypasses that aspect. Definitely let me know if this works for you. Good luck.

EDIT: For those having issues. Do it on a computer browser, not a mobile/phone browser and this should still work.

EDIT 2: Since many of you don't want to spend time reading comments, and the 2nd method has been downvoted enough to be far down the page...

Alternatively, if this doesn't work, here is another method. You still must be logged in, then visit this link: https://missingmail.usps.com/#/history

Once on this page, click on the link that reads "New Search Request". This also works for me and is how I discovered the first method.

IF IT DOES NOT WORK ON THE FIRST TRY, KEEP TRYING. IT WILL WORK EVENTUALLY. COMMENTING "DOESN'T WORK" JUSTS SHOWS YOUR LACK OF PATIENCE... IT DOES INDEED WORK.

I had a package that went more than two weeks with no scans or updates of any kind. It was stuck on accepted.

I filled out a Help Request form- they got back to me in 3 business days and told me they couldn’t find any additional info on my package. They suggested I contact the sender.

Instead I did a Missing Mail Search. 24 hours later- my package has been found and its out for delivery!

I strongly suggest people try filling out the Missing Mail Search form- add as much info as you can like the senders address. Hope it helps for some other people here!

Update: Its here! The label on the package was damaged. No idea if the missing mail search fixed things or not but it sure didn’t hurt!

r/usps_complaints on Reddit: How long does a missing mail search USUALLY take?
February 13, 2022 -

I’ve looked this up very generally online, and I’ve seen some responses say it can take anywhere from a few hours to 3 months (which is when USPS officially declares a package missing). Since there’s no way I’m waiting 3 months to find out about this, when would be an appropriate time to just get a refund from the sender? I already posted about my issue on here but basically: package shipped from one state over on the 24th of January, hasn’t moved since, called the USPS and complained a few times…now on the 8th of February I was able to file a help request. Didn’t hear a response for a few days so I called and the lady told me they closed the request without giving me any information or trying to contact me (other than to say they got my request 😬). She reopened the request, and over email I was told to submit a missing mail form. The search started yesterday, and I’m just wondering if anyone else has had to do this? The person sending the package has been very worried and I wonder if maybe I should just get a refund if I don’t hear anything by the end of this week. This is extremely frustrating, looking for any insight anyone might have on this.

Edit: forgot to mention that the delivery date was supposed to be Saturday the 29th of January.

I’ve never had this happen to me. I’ve purchased from the seller multiple times and completely trust them when they said my package was dropped off. But it didn’t start tracking at all! This package was almost $400 and I need it in less than 2 weeks. Has anyone had their mail go missing recently? If so, did it eventually get delivered?

r/usps_complaints on Reddit: How do you even get in contact with a human being about missing mail?

I'm only 26 and I feel like a boomer posting this, but I'm at a loss. I moved to a new state and got my state license a few weeks ago. I had to surrender my old state license in order to apply for the new one, and the new one is supposed to come in the mail. Informed Delivery told me it would arrive over a week ago - the three mail pieces I was supposed to get that day, including my new driver's license and an important utility bill, still haven't arrived. Meanwhile I've been getting all of my other mail pieces on the correct day. The DMV is telling me to verify with USPS that the mail is missing before requesting a replacement but USPS is impossible to contact. I've emailed them, called them, sent a missing mail request, etc. and there's absolutely no way of getting them to call/email me back. I've been without an ID for weeks now and my actual ID is just lost somewhere in the mail system I guess. How do I even get in contact with an actual person about this? Their AI phone system is no help and my emails and requests have all been ignored. From what I understand my apartment neighbors all didn't get their mail that day either. How the f did an entire apartment complex's mail go missing?

ETA: It is genuinely insane how many of you don't see people in low-income communities as real human beings. We can't fork out money to replace our important mail when over half of it "goes missing" and is never delivered. It is not a simple accident for a low income area to consistently not receive mail week after week.

So the problem with informed delivery is that it is not always accurate. The pictures of the mail are taken well before the mail is fully sorted into the route ordered trays of letters. A lot can happen between the pictures and the mail getting to you. It can be stuck in a sorting machine, it can be destroyed in the sorting machine, it can be misrouted in the sorting machine. Every single day, every carrier on every route in the nation will have letters that not only do not belong to their route, but also do not belong to their town. When someone calls with an informed delivery issue, I always tell them to give it a full week for the letter to show up because you never know. At the same time, if you’re in a building with a centralized box, did the dmv put the apartment number on the letter? If not, there’s a good chance it was returned to them as insufficient address. There’s also a chance it ended up in a wrong mail slot. The carrier or hopefully a resident that receives it incorrectly could give it to you. Lots of things can happen, but unfortunately there is no real way to find the letter without some sort of tracking on it. Easiest way to speak to someone is to go to the post office in person and ask to speak with the supervisor or postmaster.

Mail is processed at plants on machines. The plants are understaffed. The people who know how to repair and maintain the machines are quitting and retiring. So mail can be delayed. Or sent to the wrong post office. Post offices are understaffed. The pay and benefits for new employees aren't that competitive. The Post Office is hiring a number of new employees, but without the resources to really train them properly. So an entire apartment complex might not get mail for a day if there's no one to deliver it.

Should I not have filed a missing mail request?

Before I submitted my missing mail request on Jan 26th, it was still “in transit arriving late”. Since it hadn’t updated since the 22nd, I submitted a request, and once my request was confirmed it turned to the red alert. But now I fear they might not do as much to find it??

To make things worse, USPS called me today and said that after contacting their partners in Texas, they could not locate my item. Is it gone? It has to be SOMEwhere… right???
