This is not a usual place to do layoffs! It’s not silicon valley that you lay off people and then they have other companies to turn to. How can you practically make people move here in a hell hole like Bentonville and the lay them off. Are you frikkin stupid? Do you want people to commit suicide? You don’t let any other company come here, you ask people to move here and then you take away their job? What is this emotional roller coaster, do you want us to die literally?

Today and tomorrow will be mass layoffs in Walmart about 1500 people laid off from US offices. I’m the one who got affected and literally got this as birthday surprise after working for 6 years.
So I noticed this in my profile. I was not talked to about anything and to my knowledge there aren't supposed to be any layoffs, although they did hire some new people. I work ON stocking and my schedule for the week of the 9th through the 15th got dropped down to 29 hours even though I'm full time. I have not gotten my schedule for the week of the 16th to the 22nd and I feel like these should have dropped already?
I'm only at 2.5 points so I'm not entirely sure if this is just a glitch or something?
I hope everyone is doing okay. I specially those impacted by the layoffs. If you have any info on the layoffs or questions throw them in here.
Anybody know any hard numbers? Rumor mill said 1500 US associates and 1000 IDC (workers in India).
Also it appears all level 2 employees have been cut???
Just got laid off as a SWE from Walmart Global Tech, after only working there for THREE MONTHS. That's right THREE. I just moved here, moved my entire life here, signed a lease, bought furniture, got situated then boom. Goodbye. My last day is Friday, so many things to figure out AHHHHHH.
Now my first SWE job is a 3 month role on my resume. Not sure what I'm gonna do, just a vent, sorry.
I have been working with the remodel team for almost two years now, about 5 out of my 35 coworkers have been working for remodel for almost 10 years. We were all called yesterday by different directors (that we’ve never spoken to before) telling us that we were all being laid off effective immediately, even for the associates who were in the middle of a remodel project. We were also told that it was a “hard decision” that was made that same morning at 8:30am. They then told us we’d be receiving packets in the mail the following day (today - 02/28). We thought maybe it was our team being laid off but nope, the entire project team has been disbanded and the position has been erased entirely. They are now hiring part time store associates to complete remodels with a $6 pay cut, while I was making $20/hour with gas mileage reimbursement. Upon parting ways, they’ve given us severance pay for 3 months until we find a new job. After May 30th, we will not be receiving anymore help. I’m incredibly frustrated, anxious, and annoyed. I’m not surprised though. The past year has been rough in this position, a lot of weird changes and we were all kind anticipating something to happen to our position. We definitely didn’t expect to be told to not come back to work in the middle of a project though. Though the severance package they’re leaving us with is a lot better than most, I still can’t help but feel incredibly defeated at this point.
ETA: they’re not actually paying us what they said they were going to for the next 90 days. It’s an average total of what our individual paychecks look like, they’re not counting NPTO or PTO, only working hours.
ETA: the 40,000 came directly from my boss and I didn’t care to check the validity of that due to taking his word and being wrapped up in my own feelings. The number is closer to ~1,500, sorry about the misleading title!
Looks like Walmart and Sam’s HQ laid off about 1500 employees today. “Restructuring.”

Here’s one for all folks that go back to the great recession with Walmart. When the recession hit big-time did Walmart layoff employees? Or was it the opposite where they were looking for new employees because business was booming because all the people instead of going to the fancy stores came to Walmart for more savings? Thanks in advance.

Article says they occupy 4 floors in 221 River and will take another 2-3 in that building and 1 in 121. Seems odd that they're laying off 500 people but also almost doubling their square footage. Anyone have any insight?
