I keep all my credit scores frozen. I unfroze my Transunion just to check the pre qualification for the Walmart card and I was pre approved. Before actually hitting apply I went back and froze my Transunion and then hit the button to apply. Low and behold I was approved! Just wanted to share this with anyone looking to get the card but don’t want to take a hit to your credit.
Update: Just to clarify in case my wording wasn’t clear it didn’t hit my credit. I got an email from Credit Karma stating a credit inquiry was blocked.

What bank does Walmart credit card go through?
Can I get approved for a Walmart credit card with no credit?
How can I get Walmart credit?
After some bad personal choices my credit was in "poor" range for a few years. 2 cards were closed (cap one and bank of america). After some time paying a car loan I guess I managed to bring score back up and I was blessed and offered a second chance by cap one(Capital One Platinum) and Discover (Secured IT) card in May/June 2022 (thanks in part to you guys! =) ).
FYI my Discover card has since been upgraded to a non secured card and my credit has increased to 600-700 range.
So, I recently came across an ad for a Walmart Store Card via Capital One and used their pre approval form to see if I qualify. Apparently I do and am considering getting it. However I am wondering whether it's worth it or if I should instead just continue working on raising limits for current cards, especially since I already have another Capital One card? I am also wondering if this will somehow limit my ability to raise my limits on my current card? In addition, I was told capital one cards starting in '5178' cards are sub prime, which is what I have..
So I guess I am wondering if the Walmart card would be an "upgrade" to my current Capital One Platinum, and a non sub prime sort of card, and if I should see this as an opportunity? Or wondering also if it is in a "higher tier"? Or do store cards work differently even though branded by Capital One thus will be seen as an entirely separate card despite already having Capital One Platinum? My main goal is to get in 700-800 range and have a decent limit available to me, for emergencies etc; And have a card that will be a good stepping stone for the future. Again, not sure if it's accurate, but my Capital One Platinum is a '5178' card and I feel like I need to counteract it by getting a better card?
In addition, despite pre-approval, I am concerned about potential rejection, which I assume would lower my score from credit inquiry, undoing a lot of my hard work!
Thank you all
I applied and got approved for the Walmart credit card over 2 months ago. When I use the pre-approval tool for the VX, the only reason I’m not getting pre-approved is because of a recent application with Capitol One.
I’ve seen data points of people saying that the Walmart credit card isn’t affected by the 6-month rule. Has anyone else had the same or different experience?
Wondering if I will have to wait 6 months to be able to apply for the VX.
