This isn’t an answer to your question per se but I just furnished my whole first apartment and Google Lens saved my ass. Find a couch you like somewhere, then download the Google app and use the lens feature to search for the couch elsewhere online. Often these sites mark up prices and you can find things cheaper. I saved literally hundreds off multiple pieces of furniture this way. And to answer your question…I bought quite a few furniture pieces from Wayfair and they were all really quite good. My couch is from Ashley, and if you’re up to going in-store and trying them out, you can REALLY negotiate them down. I found a couch I LOVED for $1,899. After warranty, taxes, delivery, etc it was literally $2,700 and change. I was like nah, I was hoping to be out the door for $1,800 I didn’t realize there were so many fees and blah blah. Manager came over and gave me the couch, 5-year warranty, delivery, taxes, etc for $1,828 all together. You can REALLY REALLY negotiate them down if you’re up to it. September 3, 2023 -

I’m moving into my first solo apartment and looking for a couch. I dont want to spend too much and wayfair has some pretty good prices. If anyone who has bought a couch from wayfair could please share their experiences/thoughts. Did you think it was worth it? Pros, Cons, etc. Or just in general if anyone has any suggestions of where to get a good couch that won’t break the bank!

Do your research. I like to reverse Google image search to find the same couch through other sellers and read reviews from other sites. Pay especially close attention to reviews that say they’ve had the couch for a year or longer. Look through the negative reviews and se if the issues they mention are dealbreakers for you or something you can roll with, and how common those reviews are. You can get an affordable couch that isn’t complete shit, but you’ll have to do a mountain of research to find it. As far as affordable brands go, I’ve actually really liked Article so far. Had my Sven couch from them ($1400) for going on three years now and it’s still hella comfortable. On the flip side, I’ve heard a lot of terrible things about the quality of West Elm couches, which is hilarious given their prices pretend like they’re posh.

I love Wayfair, but you definitely want to keep an eye on reviews and price and return policy. If you love an item that doesn't have reviews, at least look for reviews on other products by the same company to see how their general quality is. I don't think I have any upholstered furniture from Wayfair, but I have shelves and used to have a desk from there. Quality is very dependent on the manufacturer because Wayfair is kind of like Amazon, basically just a selling point and they will sell from just about anyone. Regarding your couch specifically, have you checked Costco? When I was in last week they had some amazing couches, I had to stop and remind myself that a) there was no way they would fit in my tiny living room and b) I was still better served by the upholstered daybed that I used as a living room lounging spot. I think they were right around $900-1000, though, but they were huge giant things. More on reddit.com

Wayfair sleeper sofa
Selling this beautiful brand new sleeper sofa. Please read thoroughly for specifications. This brand new sleeper sofa is less than a month old! (Yes for REAL), unfortunately my parents are visiting from abroad and they need better sleeping accommodations since my father just had a car accident and this couch was bought just to accommodate them, therefore we don’t need it anymore. I have a pretty busy life and been working extra hours to cover the upcoming time off so to say that I have barely use this couch is an understatement, I’ve literally sat down on it 3 times. Condition: As good as new, no stains, marks, rips or issues. Pet-free, smoke-free household. It includes all original and complete parts as well as the cover bag it came in, I also have the actual shipping box but is kinda dirty and ripped but available if needed. Is a semi firm couch, which is my preference since I have posture issues and I need something that doesn’t sink in, being said that, the 3 times I’ve sat down to watch TV it has been comfortable enough where I just chill there for a few hours (the office marathon. whoops) This couch was bought for $610 (including taxes), but I believe they have it on sale right now for $544 (including taxes) I am asking for $400 or reasonable offers. Item can be assembled or dissembled for easier move out. I live on a second floor walk-up and I can help bring it down the stairs, however unless you’re Mr. Incredible you’ll need a second set of arms to transport as this would be too heavy/awkward to carry for a single person. I think it can possibly be carry in a dolly by a single person once on the street 🤷🏻‍♀️ Pick-up only. 34 ave area. Cash/zelle accepted. More on reddit.com

July 12, 2019 -

Long time lurker, relatively new to posting.

So the girlfriend and I finally moved in together, which means my 99$ foldable IKEA couch, Balkarp, no longer cuts it. We have discussed what we want in a couch, but have yet to see said couch in person. However, Wayfair seems to have a lot of viable options for us that meet our needs: turns into a bed somehow, black, and comfortable for gaming /lounging/movies under 800$. Thing is, buying furniture sight unseen feels... a little weird. I guess we just dont feel entirely comfortable with it unless we get some anecdotes. Anyone have any experience with Wayfair or any online furniture retailer? Thanks for sharing your story!

Edit: Wow thank you all so much for the anecdotes! I really appreciate all the experience, especially with Wayfair. Seems like everyone is kinda pointing to going in person and checking it out (Costco) over online purchases, which is what we will most likely do. So cool to have so much help from the community!

My husband and I ordered a couch from Wayfair and ended up not liking it, which is fine, but when you want to return something of that size, they take the shipping to return out of your refund, which in our case was about 57% of what we paid for the couch in the first place. So we ended up losing a good chunk of money since we had to cover the shipping back to their warehouse. I've ordered smaller items from them, which I haven't had a problem with. But when it comes to something larger like a couch, I would say just go into furniture stores and deal with the annoying sales people, because you may end up saving some money and get to see/test out the furniture for real.
