I recently began reading the Bible to try to become closer to God, so I would like to begin by saying I am just seeking to understand, not belittling Christianity. If God is omnipotent, couldn't He create the Earth instantly? Also, why did God need to rest on the 7th day? Thank you for your help!

Because thatโs how long a temple inauguration ceremony was and God was declaring the cosmos as his throne. The seventh day symbolizes God taking his seat on the throne and beginning his reign of the universe.

I see no reason why he could not have done it all in an instant. Yet, the text says he took his time. I feel like there is more to this story, and that those 6 days have some greater significance beyond setting up the sabbath, but I have not come to any conclusions as to what that significance is.
