Something like Chat-GPT is essentially a super complicated text prediction algorithm that is created using very complicated math. It learns what word is most likely to appear next after a given set of words by scouring the entire internet and storing that information in a huge multi-dimensional probability graph. Then, to come up with a sentence, it takes the context of any previous conversations you’ve had with it and it’s currently provided prompt and then word for word generates a response by adding the most likely word to appear in the current context to the end of its response repeatedly. That’s why you always see the words appear one at a time in Chat-GPT. It’s important to note that what most people consider to be modern AI does not have feelings. The bot just puts out a series of lines of texts, with a delay inbetween.
Most people will answer almost identically, so it doesn't take into account what the other user actually says.
Some of the more advanced ones will pick up on words / phrases the other person uses, and respond to them.
