Hey everyone,
I’ve always been frustrated with how difficult it is to download WhatsApp chat history, especially when you need to go back and retrieve something important. Whether it’s for personal use or keeping a record of work-related conversations, saving chat history can be a real headache on WhatsApp Web.
I recently found a solution that works smoothly and thought I’d share it with you all. I’ve been using a Chrome extension called ChatBackup for WhatsApp. It’s super straightforward and helps you download WhatsApp chat history directly from WhatsApp Web as a CSV or HTML file.
Here’s how it works:
Open WhatsApp Web on your PC. Reload the page if already opened
Activate ChatBackup: Click the ChatBackup icon in your browser toolbar and select the chat and preferred dates for downloading the chat.
Download the Chat: Once you hit the download button, the extension processes the chat and saves it as a CSV or HTML file (based on your selection) on your device including media.
What I really like is how simple it is—no complicated setup, and it integrates seamlessly with WhatsApp Web. Plus, there’s a free version that covers the basics, and a paid version if you need a bit more functionality.

I have not used this extension, so I cannot comment on it. And I don't know if the message will be exposed to the developers. I was also looking for a solution to this as well and I found an inbuilt function on WhatApp itself. I am using Android version of the app. Tap the contact’s name in the chat > Click three dots on the top right corner > More > Export Chat. Choose with or without media. This will create a zip file with the entire chat history in a text file and media if included.
