Just mattress shopping for the wife and I (she's 145 side/back sleeper) I'm a tall 185 pound side sleeper who loves the edge. Was looking at the Helix sleep luxe line and feeling pretty good about it. But then check the FAQ and they charge $250 shipping to Canada (which you know you aren't getting back if the sleep trial doesn't suit), and gotta pay duties at the border (which on a $2k mattress is going to be a pretty penny too and the worst part is that I have no idea how pretty).

Anyways, I'm looking for a Cali King hybrid medium firm that's on the higher quality end of the materials spectrum and would love to hear what you guys would recommend. Literally just bought our daughter a Silk & Snow hybrid that would have probably been good, but they only make a king (I'm quite sick of my feet hitting the footrails on our current queen.) I'd be sorely tempted to try the purple mattress 3, but they only sell it white glove so I can't get it in Canada either.

Not too keen to go to the mattress store with the 'Rona, but unless the warranty claim on the Serta we have now miraculously comes through we're going to be in the market. Might have to bite the bullet and make an appointment at the mattress store.

Moving to a new apartment soon and figure I could upgrade my bed. Every YouTuber and their mom is sponsored by helix so I figured I’d give it a shot. I was in the military for a while and suffer from severe lower back pain so I wanted something pretty high quality. But $3k (after discount) for a luxury bed seems like a scam. Has anyone bought their Elite series mattress and can vouch for this, or should I look elsewhere and save my money?

A few months ago I decided it was time to buy my first adult mattress and after weeks of research for my sleep habits and weight I decided to go with the Helix Sunset—too soft, even for someone as small as I am, and with short memory foam. After a few months I realized it was giving me back pain and now I have to deal with the return, which is easy but so stressful when you live in a tiny place with staircases and roommates! Helix has been great but the anxiety is through the roof.

I decided that the solution was to go to an in person store, but the place I went seems to have scammed me; I've only lost the 200 dollar deposit, but for a 24 year old grad student that's so much money! This is a complicated situation where I was essentially lied to about warranty and price; I would have probably still gotten the mattress but it feels bad, man. (I know I was stupid here, this is proof of my low WIS score)

And now, trying to find a replacement in my budget without a billion people talking about their awful experiences is driving me crazy. If this is adulting I don't want it. I just want to sleep.

Anyways, I would love recommendations for a queen hybrid or memory foam mattress for a 125lb side sleeper that's around 1200 and won't make me pull my hair out. (The budget was previously 1400 but alas, scammed)

After what seems like years of grueling mattress research/shopping, I feel like I have finally zeroed in on a prospect. Does anyone here have a Helix matress, bonus points for the midnight elite? Helix gets a lot of traction but not a lot of personal experience reviews. I have read there may be quality issues, so I would like to hear from actual users. TIA!!

I am looking for a new mattress. I currently have a no-spring Serta ‘Serene Peace’ mattress which I think is latex from a Vera Wang collection in 2008.

I’m kind of a big guy and my hips are pushing through the mattress to the base layer which is firm so I wake up stiff with pain almost every morning. I move around a lot at night (maybe because of the mattress?) so I’m in all sleep positions.

I tried mattress topper, but that made things worse as the 3 inch foam one just gave me lower back pain.

Right now I can only fit a Queen but would eventually like a King. I also am working to get my weight down but have kinda accepted the fact I’ll likely destroy anything I buy pretty quickly so I’d like to not spend a ton until I can get that king.

Someone I know got a Serta Perfect Sleeper Charlotte from Mattress Firm so I tried that for a night and I could hear the springs moving when I rolled and I woke up in tremendous pain.

I then went to some stores and tried a few mattresses. My absolute favorite was the Beautyrest KX Plush. I accidentally kicked the remote and it raised the head, feet and started vibrating. I legit thought I was going to space. Laying on it in the store, I was blown away at how amazing it felt, really, truly. Until yesterday I thought the adjustable bases were just dumb, but now I really wish I could get that setup. I was laying on $6,000 but I felt like a million bucks.

I also laid on the Tempur Luxe Breeze. I really liked the cooling feeling and had zero pressure anywhere. But I get stuck in place and could hardly turn over.

Then I tried the Purple Hybrid Premier 4 and liked that quite a bit, probably my second favorite but didn’t try it super long, then tried the original Purple and sank right through to the base layers.

I also tried the Casper Nova & Wave Hybrids with and without the cooling layer but liked the Nova best because it was softest.

During looking at all these beds I was pointed towards a $1300 “Thomas Cole Borealis Hybrid”. I actually liked it quite a bit and kept coming back to it over and over. The only ones I liked better was the Purple 4 & Beautyrest KX.

I then found out they had this same Borealis Hybrid on clearance as a ‘comfort return’ for $547 an hour away and I planned to go get it the next day. For the price it seemed like a no brainer.

The next day I decided to go back to my local store and try it again. I still really liked it a lot but something tells me it might be too soft and will give me problems because I’ve read a lot about not getting too soft, especially if your heavy. So I decided to pass on that.

Then today I found a Helix Plus with GlacioTex cover for $550, I’m going to try it out tomorrow but I’m thinking this might be a better choice.

Going from a springless mattress for 14 years to a hybrid, will some back pain be normal as I adjust? (If we need to adjust anyway, does it even matter what we get?)

Should I get the Helix Plus? I feel like a dedicated plus size mattress at this price seems like an obvious move. I just want to wake up without pain. I notice I move around a lot because of pain/pressure spots during the night.

Just as my title states, I walked into a store that sells a lot more than mattresses and they had quite a few different. BIAB brands. They happen to have a helix mattress. I was looking for in stock in a box. Again, they are a legitimate showroom, but I did not get the vibe that they should be selling these and even if it’s legitimate, which I think it is, they had trouble answering questions about warranty delivery and returns.

My guess, is they’re selling their own showroom stock. This one was still in the box. I am desperate for a mattress and I almost bought it, but I figured one more night and asking online might be the more prudent way of approaching it.

I'm new to reddit so I'm not sure if I'm posting to the right area but I am in the market for a mattress and just came from a store where my favorite was the Sealy Hybrid Elite Kelburn FM mattress. Its got coils in the bottom and foam on top. Was wondering if you could compare that to the helix mattress. Im interested in Helix because it also has coils. Is this gimmicky? Should I not fall for the trap? What online mattress would you recommend that is most like the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid Elite Kelburn FM. Thanks in advance.

I’ve been recommending this mattress for quite a while now, ever since I got it, and I get way too many DMs from random users asking me all kinds of questions about this mattress. So, I’ve been meaning to write this up for a while and figured it was finally time to share my experience with the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress after sleeping on it for over a year.

(I asked the moderator for permission, and I’m not using any technical terms in this review—I’ll just describe everything the way it feels and how I’d explain it to my best friend.)

Quick backstory

For reference, I'm around 180 lbs and primarily a back sleeper who tosses and turns a bit, occasionally ending up on my side. Sometimes I'll end up in what I call the "car crash" position on my stomach, but that's basically just another form of side sleeping. My wife is around 120 lbs and a STRICT side sleeper who could sleep through the apocalypse.

That said, we moved from a queen Beautyrest Black Plush Pillow Top (bought in 2018 after trying it at the St. Regis Hotel) to the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress with the GlacioTex Cooling Cover option.

(Also, yes, I'll definitely write up a review on that Beautyrest Black too since it was honestly the most comfortable mattress I'd ever slept on until now—so, my expectations were SKY HIGH.)

Shipping and delivery

I live in Puerto Rico and had to ship this bad boy from the mainland. It cost a few hundred extra but STILL was cheaper than if I'd shipped it to Canada for some reason. All I know is that my mattress arrived in about a week and a half, and it was delivered right to our doorstep.

It wasn’t FedEx who delivered it—it was a third-party Puerto Rican delivery service that forwarded it to us, and I had to sign on a tablet.

This thing is HEAVY AF. We live in a townhouse with three floors with no elevator and guess where the master bedroom is? Well, my tiny wife and I basically had to roll it up the stairs like that robot from Interstellar (TARS? CASE? can't remember which one).

The box was pristine until our little stairway adventure destroyed it. But, we got the mattress upstairs in one piece.

Unboxing and setup

We unboxed our new Helix Midnight Luxe (hybrid mattress) and put it on our new Japanese joinery wooden slatted king bed frame (slats spaced less than 3" apart as recommended). Then we just let it expand for like a week since we were still moving in.

(TBH, we can even fit an Alaskan king in this new bedroom, it's huge!)

Off-gassing wasn't an issue at all—there was a very subtle initial scent but we had a HEPA purifier and AC running 24/7 and by the time we actually slept on it, it smelled like nothing.

Initial impressions

When I first jumped on the mattress, (I actually stepped on it instead of sitting or lying down), I was genuinely surprised by how it felt. Remember, I came from a luxury hotel mattress and my standards were through the roof—but this thing was surprisingly plush yet supportive. Then, when I sat and lay down on it, it didn’t feel quite as plush as it did when I stepped on it. So, the more weight you put on a specific point, the plusher it feels, so keep that in mind if you’re on the heavier side.

Honestly, the Helix Midnight Luxe is a beautiful mattress. It's well-constructed, tall (about 14"), luxurious color palette, and it LOOKS expensive. The handles on the sides are a nice touch too.

I kept walking all over it to break it in (weird habit, I know) and noticed a significant difference in resistance across different zones. The Helix Midnight Luxe has a zoned support system that's SUPER noticeable when walking—much softer in the shoulder and leg areas, but significantly firmer in the center third where your lumbar area rests.

Interestingly, when you're actually lying down, not sitting though, this zoning feels more subtle but it definitely works and does it job well.

Cooling technology

The GlacioTex Cooling Cover is AMAZING. But, I’m not that glad we went with it.

This Helix Luxe mattress, at least with the GlacioTex Cooling Cover, feels incredibly soft and cool to the touch. Any Luxe model with this cover will feel almost like you're lying on an ice block. I was honestly surprised by how cool it felt at first. HOWEVER, it's worth noting that the cooling effect doesn't last forever (physics, duh), but if you get up and lie back down, it sort of "reactivates".

I was wearing a t-shirt and jeans that day, and the cooling effect could be felt through both fabrics. The breathability is pretty cool too—you can literally feel air whooshing out all four sides when you compress it.

We use the matching Helix GlacioTex Cooling Waterproof Protector and Mattress Encasement.

Once you put the protector and encasement on the mattress, you can barely feel the cooling effect anymore. NOTHING. So, if you’re not going to sleep on the naked mattress, don’t count on the cooling cover to cool you down—it won’t.

We also use a set of L.L. Bean percale cotton sheets, and a light duvet. Living in Puerto Rico where it's hot AF, we keep our bedroom between 66-68°F year-round to control humidity and protect furniture (I'm literally allergic to mold and dust mites). Even with all that, and 4+ layers on top of the mattress we've NEVER had issues with sweating or overheating. It's always fresh and cool.

Break-in period

I got to be honest, the first night wasn't amazing. Coming from a plush pillowtop, this felt a bit firm and even gave me slight back pain. The first few days, it felt like a true medium-firm mattress.

I mean, when you step on it, the Midnight Luxe mattress feels softer because, like I mentioned earlier, you're concentrating weight in one spot, but when your body weight is distributed across the surface for 8 hours, it doesn't feel as soft. So, heavier people than me might find this mattress softer than I did initially.

I'd describe it as "sleeping ON the mattress rather than IN it" but with just the right amount of sink for comfort.

After about 1-2 weeks, the old Helix Midnight Luxe reviews I'd read started making sense—the mattress broke in and my body adapted. Now, more than a year later, it feels like a true medium mattress with the right balance of comfort and support.

Support and alignment

The support layer has been consistently excellent from day one. I don't experience any back pain because I stay properly aligned all night.

The zoned support system in the Helix Midnight mattress lineup is legit—it provides that extra lumbar support while giving nice cushioning in the shoulder area to prevent joint discomfort.

Motion isolation and edge Support

The motion isolation on this particular model, from my perspective, is AVERAGE. I get up to pee sometimes or wake up early, and my wife has never noticed me leaving the bed. I try to be ninja-quiet anyway, but she says she feels absolutely nothing when I move. BUT, I genuinely feel the bed moves a lot when I move. I don’t know if it’s the bed frame or the mattress, but I’m torn between what my wife says and what I feel.

The edge support is AMAZING. I can roll right to the edge without feeling like I'm about to fall off and perform other activities I will talk about in the next section probably.

I don't often sit on the edge (we have a bench in our closet for putting on shoes), but when I do, it's super sturdy. This mattress definitely outperforms our old mattress in the edge support department.

Sex factor (yeah, I'm going there)

My wife and I have an active sex life, and this Helix Midnight Luxe mattress review wouldn't be complete without mentioning this aspect. The responsiveness and bounce are amazing even on our slatted base.

We've never had problems switching positions or sinking too much during intimate moments. AT ALL.

We've "tested" the entire surface (FOR SCIENCE!), especially the corners and edges, and the support is consistent throughout. Unlike our previous pillow-top mattress which could get complicated, this mattress gets a 10 for sexy time activities.

“For a lightweight side sleeper, it feels less plush than my previous mattress but more supportive overall.

During the break-in period, I sometimes woke up with neck and hip pain, but I wasn't sure if it was from moving houses or the new mattress. After about two weeks, the pain went away and the mattress became much more comfortable.

I'm not a hot sleeper and the cooling cover doesn't make much difference since I'm always cold, lol. This mattress really supports my body: it's firmer for sure than my old one but still feels soft and plush. I don't sink into it, yet it contours nicely to my body.”

So, even as a strict side sleeper who's A LOT lighter than me, she's finding the mattress to be accurate regarding the promised balance of comfort and support.

Just goes to show that the Helix Midnight Luxe genuinely works for different body types and sleep positions.

Long-term durability

After over a year of daily use, there's virtually no permanent indentation or sagging.

The Helix mattress price is justified by how well it's holding up. I rotate it 180° every 3-4 months just to be safe, but honestly, it looks and feels almost identical to when we first got it. The stitching is still perfect, no loose threads or issues with the cover.

Who should buy this mattress?

Based on my experience, the Helix Midnight Luxe could be good for:

• Side and back sleepers around my weight (180lbs) or lighter

• Side sleepers like my wife (120lbs)

• Couples with SLIGHTLY different sleep preferences

• Hot sleepers (with the cooling cover upgrade?... I'm not so sure)

• People who want a true medium feel with zoned support

If you're significantly heavier or prefer a truly plush/firm feel, you might want to check out other options in the Helix Sleep mattress lineup.

The not-so-great stuff

To keep it 100% real, there are a few minor issues with the mattress that other Reddit reviews don't always mention:

1. The price is definitely on the higher end, especially with the cooling cover upgrade. When I checked Helix mattress complaints before buying, price was one of the main issues.

2. It's HEAVY AF. Seriously, rotating this king-size beast requires two people and some strategic planning. Trust me, this matters weighs more than you think.

3. The initial break-in period might be uncomfortable if you're coming from a softer mattress.

4. Helix customer service took about 2 days to respond to a question I had, which isn't terrible but not amazing either.

My final thoughts on the Helix Midnight Luxe

I was a bit nervous, especially after reading so many mixed Helix Midnight Reddit threads (especially now that the mattress space within Reddit is such a shit show). But, after sleeping on it for over a year, IMO, the Helix Midnight Luxe, is absolutely worth it.

Coming from the Beautyrest Black (which I loved), I wasn't sure anything would compare, but the Helix Midnight Luxe has honestly been pretty good for our needs.

The cooling properties alone aren't worth the upgrade for anyone that uses mattress protectors or encasements. But, the combination of zoned support and just the right amount of plushness makes it one of the best mattresses I've slept on in my entire life.

I'd give this mattress, (while also taking into consideration other Helix Midnight Luxe mattress reviews) a good 8.5/10 overall. The only points deducted is for the initial break-in period discomfort and the cooling cover disappointment (even though it doesn't bother me at all.)

I hope this helps and answers most of the questions I get in my DMs. This is exactly how I feel about the mattress. If you’re on the fence and your sleeper profile somewhat matches mine, this mattress is a pretty good alternative to consider.

The Helix Mattress price is justified by how well it's holding up. I rotate it 180° every 3-4 months just to be safe, but honestly, it looks and feels almost identical to when we first got it. The stitching is still perfect, no loose threads or issues with the cover.

Who should buy this mattress?

Based on my experience, the Helix Midnight Luxe is perfect for:

• Back sleepers around my weight (190lbs) or lighter

• Side sleepers like my wife (120lbs)

• Couples with SLIGHTLY different sleep preferences

• Hot sleepers (with the cooling cover upgrade)

• People who want a true medium feel with zoned support

If you're significantly heavier or prefer a truly plush feel, you might want to check out other options in the Helix Sleep mattress lineup.

The not-so-great stuff

To keep it 100% rea;, there are a few minor issues with the Helix Midnight Luxe Reddit posts don't always mention:

1. The price is definitely on the higher end, especially with the cooling cover upgrade. When I checked Helix mattress complaints before buying, price was one of the main issues.

2. It's HEAVY AF. Seriously, rotating this king-size beast requires two people and some strategic planning. Trust me, this matters weighs more than you think.

3. The initial break-in period might be uncomfortable if you're coming from a softer mattress.

4. Helix customer service took about 2 days to respond to a question I had, which isn't terrible but not amazing either.

My verdict on the Helix Midnight Luxe

I was nervous dropping this much cash on a mattress I couldn't try first, especially after reading mixed Helix Midnight Reddit threads (especially now that the mattress subreddit is such a shit show). But after using it for a year, IMO, the Helix Midnight Luxe. is absolutely worth it.

Coming from the Beautyrest Black (which I loved), I wasn't sure anything would compare, but the Helix Sleep Midnight Luxe has honestly been even better for our needs. 

The cooling properties alone make it worth the upgrade for anyone in a hot climate like Puerto Rico or Florida.

If you're on the fence and you’ve been reading old Helix Luxe Midnight Reviews, let me tell you - it lives up to the hype. The combination of zoned support, cooling features, and just the right amount of plushness makes it one of the best mattresses I've tested in my weird little mattress journey.

I'd give this mattress, (while also taking into consideration other Helix Midnight Luxe mattress reviews) a solid 9/10 overall. The only point deducted is for the initial break-in period discomfort and the heavyweight lifting required to get it upstairs (still having flashbacks about that).
