Hello,

If you go to Settings > Windows Update, do you see an update that says something like "Windows 11, 23H2/24H2 is available"? If so, download and install 23H2 or 24H2.

The other method is to use one of the three tools Microsoft provides to you to upgrade your PC.

You can use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, the Windows 11 ISO, or the Media Creation Tool. All three of these options will get you to Windows 11, version 24H2.

To use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, download theWindows 11 Installation Assistant and then run it. You should see some prompts telling you about Windows 11 and what it'll install. Let it download and install 24H2.

To use the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool, download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool, and run the MCT. Once it finishes loading, push "Upgrade this PC Now". Let the MCT install the Windows 11 installation files, and then let it check for updates, and then let it install Windows 11.

To use the Windows 11 ISO, download the Windows 11 ISO, (you can find it here, scroll down to where you see ISO for Windows 11 x64 devices), mount it, and then run setup.exe (if you see a UAC prompt, push yes). Follow the prompts on-screen and then let setup.exe update and install Windows 11, 24H2.

All of these steps will eventually get you to 24H2 and will take a while to download and install. It's best to do this at night when you're not doing anything important. Just make sure to save your files before you start.

Hope this helps, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to let me know!

KB5027397: Feature update to Windows 11, version 23H2 by using an enablement package - Microsoft Support
The enablement package is a great option for installing a scoped feature update like Windows 11, version 23H2 as it enables an update from version 22H2 to version 23H2 with a single restart, reducing update downtime. This enables devices to take advantage of new features now.

I have a ~1 year old PC. It is currently running 22H2, but I can't upgrade to a newer version. I check for updates and it shows me nothing. I see a message "Get the newer version of Windows to stay up to date.". It seems like I am stuck. This system is very powerful and exceeds the Windows 11 requirements.

r/SCCM on Reddit: Windows 10 22H2 to Windows 11 23H2 Feature Update - Long Upgrade Time
August 3, 2024 -

I have been testing out an In-Place Upgrade from Windows 10 22H2 to Windows 11 23H2 in ConfigMgr and the total install time (with extra Task Sequence steps for customizations) took around 40-50 minutes (Download and Install).

I did test out a Feature Update (2024-07B) as a standalone update and the total time (with download) took around 3 hours.

Seeing if others have gone through this and seeing what you decided to do for a Windows 10 to Windows 11 23H2 upgrade.

I do like the In-Place Upgrade so far since it's faster and I can customize post install before the user is at the login screen.

The feature update is less work for sure but, the upgrade time is longer.

Is it normal to expect a 3 ish hour wait time to upgrade using a feature upgrade cross OS versions?

Hello,

Check WSUS Products and Classifications:

Open the WSUS Administration Console.

Go to Options > Products and Classifications.

In the “Products” tab, ensure that “Windows 11” or “Windows” (depending on your WSUS version) is checked.

In the “Classifications” tab, make sure “Upgrades” is selected to allow feature updates.

Synchronize WSUS:

Go back to the WSUS Administration Console.

Select “Synchronizations” and click on “Synchronize now” to get the latest updates from the Microsoft Update Catalogue, including the Windows 11 23H2 feature update.

Best Regards,

Hania Lian

Read through my guide

The upgrade view (https://www.ajtek.ca/wsus/how-to-setup-manage-and-maintain-wsus-part-2-computer-groups-update-views/) will show you what upgrades are available, and you can use the scoping of the Approvals process (https://www.ajtek.ca/wsus/how-to-setup-manage-and-maintain-wsus-part-6-selecting-your-test-systems-the-approvals-process/) to find the ones that are applicable to your systems.

Upgrading through WSUS is as easy as approving the 'correct' package that the computer's indicate that they 'need' and then sitting back, relaxing and watching the systems upgrade (or move onto other things).
