r/headphones on Reddit: Using wired headphones on android phone
January 2, 2023 -

So to start, I own some Sony wf-1000xm4s as from what I could see at the time they were the best sounding wireless option.

However I've only really just discovered that wired options are still the best way to listen to music for its depth and quality especially since I read somewhere that lossless isn't fully transmitted over Bluetooth? Or something like that.

So my question is, if I purchased the Philips SHP9500 which I believe is a very sold option for an entry pair; would I be able to just get a 3.5mm to USB C adapter then plug it into my Oneplus 7 Pro? And providing that is possible would I be getting 99% best sound possible as I obviously know an amp or something would be needed to fully milk everything they have but would I be getting a substantially better listening experience over just using my xm4s?

Obviously I know it's a weird comparison to make here but any of yalls input is greatly appreciated :)

Android is pretty friendly to dacs, adapters, that won't be an issue. It will be up to you decide if you like those headphones over your wireless ones. Some of the wireless stuff is actually quite good now a days so you may not notice any difference at all. The differences you do hear may actually be how the headphones are tuned from the manufacturer. That is usually where the differences lie.

that lossless isn't fully transmitted over Bluetooth? Yes, but these days LDAC is close enough that I highly doubt you can ever hear the difference. I've been testing wired vs wireless on my Deva Pro, and with LDAC set up properly it sounds exactly the same. You just need to set the sample rate, bit depth and bitrate properly. wired options are still the best way to listen to music for its depth and quality Average consumer products are usually acoustically inferior to audiophile products. This is the case for WH-1000XM4 (the headphones), but not for WF-1000XM4 (the IEMs) which have audiophile quality sound. However, audiophile IEMs are extremely cheap nowadays thanks to Chi-Fi; for example Salnotes Zero is $20 and is close to perfect. The difference between wired and wireless in IEMs is just price rather than quality, bluetooth IEMs can sound great but they're just 5x as expensive. Bluetooth headphones on the other hand... barely exist in the audiophile world. I searched for options for half a year and finally settled on the Deva Pro, but it has many drawbacks that make it very difficult to recommend. Getting good wired headphones on the other hand is simple - buy the $150 Sennheiser HD560S and you'll be set for a long time. You can also get a cheaper $120 Hifiman HE-4X if you want to save a bit more money. Or if you really want the lowest possible price point, there's $40 Koss Porta Pro X. Meanwhile, all Bluetooth headphones under $300 are just nowhere near audiophile quality. if I purchased the Philips SHP9500 which I believe is a very sold option for an entry pair Why this in particular? There's better wired options. would I be able to just get a 3.5mm to USB C adapter then plug it into my Oneplus 7 Pro? It will work, but it depends on what volume you want to listen at. And providing that is possible would I be getting 99% best sound possible as I obviously know an amp or something would be needed to fully milk everything they have It depends on what music you listen to and at what volume. An amplifier is needed for two reasons. One is to get a higher voltage, and the other is to get a higher wattage. Both are dependent on your target volume level and the sensitivity of your headphones. The dongle will most likely have enough voltage but not enough wattage. https://www.audeze.com/blogs/technology-and-innovation/sensitivity-impedance-and-amplifier-power but would I be getting a substantially better listening experience over just using my xm4s IMO headphones are just a much better listening experience than IEMs due to the soundstage around your head and imaging of the different instruments in space that IEMs just can't provide. With IEMs everything always sounds like a straight 1D line through my head. So it will probably give a better experience than WF-1000XM4.

Weekend poll: Do you still use wired headphones with your Android phone?
March 31, 2024 - But that's not necessarily true for everyone — in fact, based on previous wired headphone polls, I wouldn't be surprised if plenty of our readers have stuck with their trusty wired earbuds, even after years of Bluetooth-based sets. I'm going to leave this as a pretty simple poll. Even if you regularly use a pair of Pixel Buds or Galaxy Buds with your smartphone, if you do occasionally switch to wired earbuds on Android, that's a yes vote (and I'm including USB-C earbuds here as well; they just aren't popular enough to warrant their own option).

Answer (1 of 2): If your android is kitkat or above, if you plug in a headphones as well as connect via Bluetooth, then an option would pop up asking if you would like to play audio on both, this is by default, no need of a hack.
