they are either extremely dangerous. Like magnetic fields that destroy pace makers, or microwaves that cook you alive.
use tonnes of power
have huge drop off rates
travels only in a straight line, which means transmitter and receiver have to be in perfect alignment (very impractical for a phone)
requires a very specific setup, I.e. it works at only 5m, it doesn’t work at 4.5m or 5.5m.
require large amounts of equipment (I.e big antennas)
Someone else mentioned the square law issue. This is not true for all mediums, but you get different problems.
A good way of being sceptical is that companies like Intel have invested millions, using some of the best in the field, to get this idea working. Intel has probably invested 100s of millions actually. They have done a lot of working demos on long distance charging, and it works, but with huge gotchas.
So if Intel can’t get it working, how would some random Kickstarter have it solved?
