The NTG-2 runs plenty hot to keep in camera levels in trim, but works best through a balanced cable, which the EOS DSLRs do not accept out the box.. I use a Sennheiser K6/ME66 and Rode NTG2 with a beachtek DXA-5Da. Plenty hot from internal AA. My ECM-77s are not hot enough. ... Not open for further replies. I use either that or the DJI mic wireless setup if it's a taking head or vlog situation. I also have the mke600 for overhead interviews and it's spectacular. July 4, 2012 - Thanks! ... Yep, a radio lavalier mic on the groom. On the lapel closest to the bride. I use Sennheiser EW112's. You should be able to hire these if you don't want to go to the expense of buying for one job. If you get two sets you can also record the minister.

February 5, 2014 - You can find videos which demonstrate the sound quality of the various mics, but the Rode VideoMic is probably the most popular by far. It has a hot-shoe mount (it only uses the hot-shoe as a mount... you still have to use the audio cable to jack it into the side of your camera).

r/canon on Reddit: Novice looking for a microphone
June 10, 2022 -
Hello, I'm a total novice looking for advice on what microphone to buy. I am looking for a microphone to use with my canon camera, but I have no idea which one to choose.
If possible I'd like to keep the cost somewhat low (under $100). The problem is that I need to record around loud machines and fans, so I'm looking for a mic that would help pick up the voice of the person speaking over the sound of the machine.
I was thinking of possibly picking up a clip-on mic, since that could go on someone's shirt and pick up their voice clearly, but I would like advice from people who know more than I do.
Thank you.

In those conditions the position of the microphone is just as important. A good lavalier or directional boom might be your best bet. If your camera has the 1/8 jack you can get a hardwired lavalier, a pretty good one for that price.

August 7, 2017 - No. on-camera is ALWAYS the worst place for a microphone. OK there is one good use for it. It is always in sync with e video and you can use the on-camera mic for sync'ing recored sound. But thegn-camera sound is "throw away" and is never use in the final edit. Always use a wire if you can. but a GOOD wireless link is also good.

February 24, 2023 - Yes - as Ricky says, the RODE Wireless GO II is designed for this purpose and will do a fine job with your camera. Alternatively the DJI wireless microphone is a direct competitor. I have one and it works really well. It comes with the 3.5mm jack cable you need to connect to your camera.
