July 23, 2024Wix has just DOUBLED the price of my plan! What's the best way to cancel and migrate my website elsewhere?
Just got the email "We've changed our plans and moved you to one that costs 50% more because WE think it fits your needs the best and we know you'll pay it because we have you by the balls. Oh, there are cheaper plans, but we won't calculate your sales tax and removed a bunch of marketing reports and stuff to make it unusable." I would not use Wix for anything. If you want easy, use Carrrd for a simple site. If you're ecommerce and have any budget, use Shopify. If you want custom, use WordPress. Almost every one of these builders have major drawbacks, big issues when it comes to SEO, and gouge users with basic website stuff to boost their revenue. More on reddit.com

I want to create a website this month and I am looking at wix and I would like some feedback if you think Wix is for me or not. I was told yo use Wix all I need to know is html tags and css and I do know those things. I am looking to create a website that has 5 pages and I will add more as time goes on. I am looking to have my own domain name like www.mynameisteve.com (as a example) on wix website it looks like i can do all this for about $30 a month is this true is the cost of having my personal domain name included in that $30?

You might also go the self hosted way. For example a self hosted website which we build for clients is $499 the first year but the client owns in 100% unlike the wix platform where you are platform locked. Further from second year you pay only domain renewal and hosting fees which will be around $50. In the long term you save a lot of money by not getting locked in platform based websites.
