r/WootingKB on Reddit: Wooting’s Macro Support is a Joke. Where’s the REAL Software We Deserve?
August 18, 2025 -

Hey everyone,

I’ve been a proud Wooting keyboard user for a while now. Love the analog technology, the build, the feel… but here’s the cold hard truth:

Wooting has zero native macro support. None. Zero. Zip.

They released this so-called “Wootomation” software a while ago, which everyone hoped would be the native macro solution. But spoiler alert: it’s a total disaster. The software is utterly unfinished, barely functional, and clearly abandoned by the devs. You can’t even seriously rely on it for basic, much less advanced macro functions that any other decent peripheral software handles effortlessly.

Every few weeks, there’s a frustrated post on Discord or Reddit: “How do I just make this button mute my mic?” Or, “Why can’t I automate basic stuff for work with my expensive keyboard?”

Wooting’s answer is… silence. Or, “Use Wootomation!” (or 3rd party software) - but we all know it’s broken and forgotten.

I’m not asking for hacks or game cheats, just the same productivity tools EVERY other brand offers. In 2025, you shouldn’t need to use sketchy third-party macro programs (risking bans!) just to copy and paste with style.

Now, you might say, “Just use third-party programs like Key Manager, BotMek, or AutoHotkey.” The reality? Those programs are either outdated, complicated to set up, or simply don’t work properly with many games and apps-likely because anti-cheat systems see them as suspicious. It’s frustrating because all we want is simple, repeatable key presses for convenience and productivity, not cheating or anything shady.

Meanwhile, competitors like Corsair iCUE and Logitech G HUB offer native macro functionality that’s reliable, user-friendly, and integrated seamlessly. Wooting’s lack of a proper solution is glaring.

To the devs and decision-makers at Wooting:
We aren’t asking for miracles. Just give us a proper macro system - either build something solid into your firmware/software, or at least provide an official third-party app with rich features, an intuitive interface, and stability.

The community deserves this. We want the legendary analog input, and modern customization. Not this half-baked mess that’s basically a slap in the face to your loyal users.

If you’re tired of waiting for a real macro solution on your Wooting board, upvote this and share. Maybe if enough people demand it loud and clear, Wooting will finally wake up and give us the software we deserve.

Let’s make some noise - no more excuses.

This is hard to swallow, there is a source of truth here but I wouldn’t describe it as us not listening at all and ignoring this development under basic guises. But it’s true that macros is not the highest item on our list and with the setback, it takes longer for us to get it back on track. We spent an considerable amount (at that time for the resources at hand) to get Wootomation off the ground. The purpose was to make an independent macro software that was not proprietary to us (like all other brands), far easier to use than AHK, and all PC run to separate it from keyboard, not it to become a macro cheat machine with what was already an ambiguous analog input debate (having controller interfaces et al) Wootomation is an open source project, it’s free, and available to anyone to tinker on. We had dedicated a developer internally on the project, but had to separate ways. Considering no other developer (outside Wooting) was willing to invest time into expanding it, it quickly became dead in tracks. We also didn’t hear a strong voice or movement for Wootomation macros outside our Wooting user base either. With all that was developing, we decided it’s better to discontinue development on Wootomation and work on an integrated macro solution with the Wootility after we release background service with advanced light indicator features (coming soon) and automatic profile switching (coming later). Then it would also be easier for us to maintenance and handle as a Wootility core feature. That is still on the roadmap. Meanwhile, we will soon add soft macros to keyboard native features, such as hotkeys, repeat, in advanced keys. And when background service is available, start adding more advanced macro option. These will blend in Wootility, indicating what does and doesn’t need to background service. You can then also choose to turn it off entirely. The background service basically means we execute the function on the PC, not the keyboard. Because either it’s not possible on the keyboard or it’s more sensible in terms of complexity, load, and user behavior to run it on PC side. The reason we don’t add macros onboard as a first solution is because the it is far more limited than software on the PC side. You want a mute hotkey? Well keyboard HID doesn’t have mute, you need the PC sided solution. Same goes for launching applications etc. PC sided macro solution are also not allowed in competitive games to be used. Keyboard native macros can get away with it if it doesn’t use a predictable pattern (think key sequence macros), but this isn’t what you buy a Wooting keyboard for. We try to keep a balanced approach.

May 31, 2022 - Perhaps even with the option to interrupt the macro's execution with Escape. This way you could set the delay to something like half a second, and watch it go through a text file, and halt it when you see something go wrong. One very simple example of what such a macro might look like:

More or less what the title says. I recently got my hands on a wooting keyboard and stubbled on wootings advances keys. Specifically the ability to have multiple key presse register one at the actuation point and another and the bottom of the keypress.

As you can imagine this allows for quite a few different macro esq configurations but the most interesting I've found has been binding a crouch input at the bottom of my space bar allowing me to have 80% consistency with hitting the super glide timing with next to no effort just by pressing down my space bar at a Simi consistent speed.

While I don't think this feature is the same as a macro as every input does require an action to trigger it. But it does make it seriously brain dead to hit super glides.

What are y'all's thoughts on this?

It is quite similar to a macro, but without all the automations. You can set up 4 different actions on 4 different positions on your keystroke. Hello, I am currently looking for a new keyboard, and have been looking at the Wooting for some time. The Wooting two looks really good, but I really want some macro keys. Are there any plans for creating a version with macro keys? I work a bit with powershell and generaly coding, and I use macro keys quite a bit.

Thank you for your time :)

r/WootingKB on Reddit: Questions about switches & macros.
April 28, 2020 -

Hello friends, I'm looking to buy a wooting keyboard, but I have some questions:

  1. ***How noticeable is the difference between the lekker switches & the red ones?***I know the keyboard had a larger memory onboard, but are the switches substantially better? (do they feel different or is it just improved performance/latency, etc. along those lines). My use case is gaming & typing for my university work, & so I want a good typing experience alongside a good gaming experience.

  2. ***That then begs the question of: Should I wait for a lekker re-release/successor or go with a wooting two?***Might there be more features because of the increased onboard memory? or could one upgrade the wooting two's onboard memory?

  3. ***Is there a macro system in the software, and if so, how fleshed out is it?***Having said that, I did look at your trello roadmap and it seems like macros has been a 'considered feature' for quite some time, but I wondered if that is regarding a more fleshed out version, or if there's none present at all?I'm not looking for anything too complex, other than say binding a single key to perform a combination. For example, I'd like to remap 'capslock' to 'F13', & just use the remapped capslock key and set macros like 'F13+del' such that I could the combo buttons for my soundboard or other purposes.Or in a more complex case, 'F13' becomes "cycle through profiles", such that I could use the second profile to bind different actions to normal keys (so say Q becomes F14 or F14+del)

Some context: I'm deciding between the wooting two (or a lekker re-release/successor) corsair k95 plat & roccat vulcan 120 aimo.

  • Wooting is analog so it's a different ball game, & the profiles sounds promising, but I am unsure of the macro functionality (& honestly don't want to run a second keyboard just for macros, since AutoHotKey is not very useful for me***).

  • Roccat has a thing called 'easy shift' which you can use such that if you hold capslock down, a second profile becomes active where all your keys can be remaps or macros, which is really neat, but it lacks any extra macro keys, instead there are 6 baked on top of insert->page down, using a feature called game mode, which lets you set a number of game profiles, each of which uses those buttons as a different set of macros.

  • Corsair just has extra buttons that are positioned better for macro use, and the profile switch feature. (i'm coming from a dying G910 which has 9 extra macro keys & 4 profiles.

**** I don't want to use something like AutoHotKey as it doesn't play with anti-cheat measures in games.*The reason is, even if the action is something that's not even performed in the game (like a macro to play a *haha gottem* sound in my discord call, when I get a funny kill), it'll still trigger the anti-cheat as AHK itself is blacklisted, instead of being restricted to actions outside of the game or something). My fear then, is that I would leave AHK running, fat finger & hit capslock to trigger a thing in AHK, and get banned for it. ***

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: I ended up buying a wooting two, and I absolutely love it, although it is quite lite on the macro department.

Hi, hopefully I can answer some of your questions. At the moment I fon't think the lekker edition will be re-released, the new switches would probably be in a wooting 3. As for the difference between the switches, the lekkers are hall effect, and the flarotechs use lights and prisms or something. The analog levels on the HE switches is better, and you can set the actuation point higher I think, but both are great options. The HE switches may be smoother but don't qoute me on that. There are dedicated profile switch keys on the keyboard. You can make macros too, I haven't used it, but you can map a function to the upstroke or downstroke of a keypress. I think you can map like 4 functions or something. You can also remap every key on the keyboard with wootility, which is way better than most keyboard software out there. Sadly there aren't dedicated macro keys, and if that's a big thing for you, then you might not want to get it. Also, for the analog feature, I haven't ever used it. Not many games support it, so unless you like racing games then I wouldn't count it as a big plus. But there is a variable actuation point, from 1.5mm to 3.6mm. I have been very happy with my wooting 2, the switches are nice and very smooth, and it's hot-swappable. But, the choice is yours.

The macrosystem is called DKS in Wooting and it only works in analog mode instead of digital mode. You can't record or set up complex macros because it is a bit limited but the one you mentioned it should be fine. You can remap keys for sure. You should definitely get the lekker version as it's just better-having full range is a huge difference but you will have to wait till next year to get the board.
