while computer is plugged in turn it off with the power button then once it's turned off it will continue to give the same light code, then unplug the charger, hold down the power button for like a minute, then plug the machine back in, hold the power button for another minute then hopefully it will fix itself. For users returning to this thread, the flash code of 4 amber (or blue in this case), 1 white or a constantly flashing amber light would be indications of a Temporary Battery Failure. The 4,1 code in particular would be due to 2 possible reasons. Either the battery has become too hot and has shut off the charging function to try to cool down the battery, or the computer has experienced an Over Current Protection event while charging and has shut off charging temporarily to protect the computer. Both of  these scenarios are recoverable. However, the computer does not charge until the Temporary Battery Failure condition has been removed. This is working as designed to protect the computer. Use the following steps to recover the charging capability of the computer and stop the blinking LED code from being displayed: Reseat the AC adapter. This can be done by disconnecting the AC adapter for ten to fifteen seconds and reconnecting it to the computer. If the Over Current Protection circuitry has triggered this, it resets the protection and resumes charging If the battery has gone above its thermal threshold, move to a cooler ambient temperature environment and wait for the computer to cool. Once the battery temperature has decreased, the computer should resume charging. If still unresolved, remove the bottom cover and reseat the battery cable to the motherboard.  Run the diagnostic to see if there is an error code for the battery Shutdown the unit Hold down the Fn key and the power button together A quick test should start. Make note of any errors if any If still unresolved, test with a known good OEM battery if available  See this video for additional battery troubleshooting.  Contact Dell GHN (Get Help Now) chat technical support Monday through Friday. Alienware Area-51 Laptop Power Button Flashing Red Once and then Blue Four Times | Dell US
April 10, 2026 - The power fluctuation can confuse the laptop into displaying the "a single red and then four blue" flash pattern. Restarting the laptop recovers it from the displaying the error. Note: Before starting the update, perform the following: Back up all personal data. For more information, refer to: Back Up and Recovery · Connect the AC adapter. Updating the Alienware 16/18 Area-51 System BIOS to version 2.0.1 or later on the laptop resolves the issue.

r/Alienware on Reddit: PC won’t turn on (2 red & 7 blue flashes)
March 31, 2025 -

Hello, I have an Alienware 14x PC, and all of a sudden my PC seems to be unable to boot up, with the computer failing to even display anything on screen. No, my warranty has since expired.

The power button is flashing red twice and blue seven times, which from what I’ve looked up seems to mean several things. Either the lcd screen is broken, the RAM is having an issue, etc. I’ve even pried open my laptop open from beneath to scan for issues and I still have no solution.

Despite this I have found some new outcomes since the problem started. It seems that my issue is specifically with the boot up process, where my computer rarely displays the “Windows didn’t shut down correctly” screen. However, upon hitting “exit to windows 11” the whole problem starts all over. I can tell by listening to my computer’s fans that it seems to be trying to boot up over and over.

All my schoolwork is on it so I need a fix and fast. Any remedies?

A blink pattern of 2 red flashes followed by 7 blue flashes on an Alienware laptop is a diagnostic indicator from the system’s LED/error code scheme. That pattern typically points to a hardware issue related to graphics, display subsystem, or system board initialization. Below is a prioritized troubleshooting path to identify and often resolve the problem. ... Power-cycle fully: power off, unplug AC, remove battery if removable, then hold power button ...

r/Alienware on Reddit: Alienware power button slowly pulsing
October 9, 2025 -

So I got off work and turned on my laptop and updated it and now it's slowly pulsing when I have it plugged in. I'm currently looking for the manual to figure out what it is but in the meantime does any know what this means?

Hi @Farhan Manaf  this is user to user discussion forum and not Dell Support.  Removing the main battery makes the laptop behave as a desktop. There will be no diagnostic beeps or lights when this change from laptop to desktop occurs. Using laptop as a desktop does not damage the laptop. Some laptops have a toggle Desktop mode off or on, the 15 R3 does not have this feature.  Removing the Wi-Fi card should be detected during POST, but there is seemingly no 15 R3 diagnostic code for this, and system should boot.   The brief power button blue status says system is either in sleep or hibernation mode. To stop this reoccurring press and hold down the power button for about a minute so the system is forced to completely shut down.  The power button flashing 3 red 1 blue diagnostic code = CMOS (coin) battery failure, usually stops boot because BIOS has no power. Some computers do not have a coin battery and get their power directly from the ac adapter, but all Dell computers have coin batteries. A new coin battery is then required to power the BIOS. Switch laptop off, and remove the ac adapter's dc-in plug from laptop socket. The BIOS may have been corrupted. Remove the old coin battery. Hold down the power button to remove any remaining (flea) power and/or use the system board's two shorting pins, usually two bight spots designated RTCRST (Real Time Clock Reset) in one of the RAM card bays. Then wait about 20 minutes before installing the coin battery.  The system POST should not give any diagnostic beeps or lights, and boot into the windows operating system.  If the screen is dark, look at top of keyboard for the key that toggles between using external monitor and laptop monitor, and the keys that increase or reduce screen brightness.  To restart your graphics drivers, press key combination Win + Ctrl + Shift + B on your keyboard. Screen drivers will give reset beep, and screen should start working. All your current applications remain open, and no work is lost.  Please click on Kudos to say thank you for response from another user. Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.

Hi @WizardsEnterprise  thank you for providing a good report of the 15 R3 problem and including the Power LED Blinking/Beep code. POST is working, but does not complete. When there is a no video issue, test the screen by run the keyboard shortcut to enter the ePSAs or the keyboard shortcut to run the LCD BIST from POST. The test has already been undertaken, so please run the ePSAs test. If problem not resolved, try the Dell Computer Does Not Start - Interactive Support Agent.

This morning I tried to turn on my laptop without the power cord plugged in, and it didn't work as expected. However, when I plugged in the power cord, it started normally (no error messages). When I got to the desktop, my power icon in the service tray (bottom right hand side) said my battery was charging. Also, the flashing error sequence (four red, one blue) didn't appear, and as of now it's running a solid blue (healthy). After my battery was showing fully charged, I unplugged my power and it seems to be running fine. The problem seems to have gone away by itself (after an overnight rest?).Yesterday, when I was still having the issue, I ran through a couple different diagnostic tests (one through the dell website, and another on startup; I would get an error message pre/at BIOS, and there was an option to run tests there, too). On either test it didn't detect any errors. If I was still having the issue I'd run them again and post the exact results/phrasing, but as of now my laptop seems to be running normally. Thanks, crimsom.

Hello @Azguul thank you for good description of problem. Agree, looking at System diagnostic lights does not help.  The read only thread Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is b... - Dell Community is not solved.  The BIOS message 'reseat the AC adapter' suggests that the microchip in the ac adapter is not handshaking with the m17 R3 internal circuit that checks that ac adapter and/or Battery is acceptable and will not damage laptop. Does the ac adapter have a working diagnostic LED on power cord that remains on when inserted into laptop's dc-in port? Check that the ac adapter power cord plug is fully engaged in its laptop dc-in port (do not force) and that the plug's central wire is not bent or missing?  Also found this on the internet, How To Reset Power Adapter On Dell Laptop? (digieffects.com)  Please share update. Thanks.
