Change the setting back and boot into windows. Open the partition manager. There should be a partition that's called "EFI" on your boot drive. If it's not there you need to reinstall Windows because it was, like you said, in legacy mode. You can also, when installing windows 11 as a fresh install, disable all the "requirements" for windows 11. Answer from Rfreaky on reddit.com

Update BIOS before installing Windows 11 or after?
You should update your BIOS to the latest version regardless of any other factors. BIOS (AGESA) updates can contain serious performance improvements in the case of Ryzen in particular. You just need to put the BIOS file (after you unzip it) onto a USB drive. You do not need multiple drives. More on reddit.com

r/techsupport on Reddit: Changing BIOS Settings on ASUS to Support Windows 11
February 6, 2025 -

Hi all,

I have a Windows 10 PC that I upgraded last year with new hardware (mobo, cpu, gpu). With Windows 10 support coming to an end, I was looking to enable my system to support Windows 11. Currently I get a pop up from Windows saying my PC doesn't meet the requirements.

After some interwebs searches, I found I need to change my BIOS boot options from legacy to UEFI, to enable secure boot, and turn CSM off. I was able to do all those things. However, now when I boot up I go straight to BIOS and the OS doesn't seemingly get booted. Is the issue here that I installed the OS with the legacy boot mode? Will reinstalling the OS with these new BIOS settings fix the issue? Or is there another setting in the BIOS that should/could be changed to fix this issue?

Updating BIOS for Windows 11 on ASUS Motherboard | Windows 11 Forum
January 13, 2024 - The previous BIOS (1903) didn't alter any BIOS code, it just applied the Windows 11 settings by default. Your BIOS should be set to UEFI, Secure Boot should be enabled, and the firmware TPM (trusted platform module) should be enabled. Unfortunately, Asus only provides a User's Manual for the Z390-A.

July 2, 2021 - My main laptop is a Dell XPS 15 and I've had several BIOS updates installed through Windows Update. It's not a new behaviour, it's up to the manufacturer to push those updates through Windows Update. But honestly, the first time it happened it caught me by surprised and it was a bit scary. ... Yes..its scary. I have a Inspiron 7460, did not had any such experience. ... This isn't new, UEFI capsule updates have been available since Windows 8 IIRC. The most interesting thing here is that Asus didn't care about the UX, this looks identical to the manual flashing, including showing the fs0:\ content.

July 12, 2024 -

Every single time I update my BIOS, Windows 11 loses its mind and refuses to let me sign into anything and I need to get into security processor troubleshooting, sign in and out of Microsoft apps several times to no avail.

WTF. Someone please explain in plain English, how I am to update my BIOS. This should not be this complicated, but windows 11 makes it a nightmare for some reason. Asus Z790 Hero.

i don't have that experience to solve your problem, but i asked the gpt for you and here is what he responded : Post-BIOS Update Troubleshooting If Windows 11 behaves erratically after a BIOS update, follow these steps: Clear CMOS Power off your PC and unplug it. Locate the CMOS battery on your motherboard. Remove the battery for a few minutes, then replace it to reset the BIOS settings. Check Secure Boot Settings Enter BIOS setup and navigate to the Boot section. Ensure Secure Boot is enabled and properly configured. Re-enable TPM In BIOS, ensure that TPM (Trusted Platform Module) is enabled (under Security settings). Sign in to Windows Boot into Windows. If you encounter sign-in issues, try signing in with a local account instead of a Microsoft account. Security Processor Troubleshooter Open Windows Security settings. Go to Device security > Security processor. Click on Security processor troubleshooting and follow the instructions. Reset Microsoft Apps Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Select the Microsoft apps that are causing issues and click Advanced options. Click Reset. Additional Tips Ensure Stable Power: Ensure your computer is connected to a reliable power source during the BIOS update. Avoid Interruptions: Do not power off or restart your computer during the update process. Read the Manual: Refer to your motherboard’s manual for specific instructions and key combinations. Summary By following these steps, you can minimize the risk of disrupting Windows 11 when updating your BIOS. If issues persist, it may be necessary to contact ASUS support or consider a professional service to assist with the update.

Hi

Welcome to Microsoft community.

It sounds like you're trying to upgrade to Windows 11 and you're currently in the UEFI BIOS utility. It's worth noting that changes in the BIOS should be done carefully as they can significantly impact the system's functioning.

To upgrade to Windows 11, your system must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Processor: 1 GHz or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC).
  2. RAM: 4 GB or more.
  3. Storage: 64 GB or larger device storage.
  4. System Firmware: UEFI firmware with Secure Boot capabilities.
  5. TPM: TPM version 2.0.
  6. Graphics Card: DirectX 12 or later with a WDDM 2.0 driver.
  7. Display: High definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per color channel.

Here are the steps you need to follow in the UEFI BIOS utility to prepare for the Windows 11 upgrade:

  1. Secure Boot: Navigate to the 'Boot' tab in your BIOS, and make sure 'Secure Boot' is enabled. If you can't find it, it might be under a sub-menu related to 'Security', 'Authentication', or 'Boot'.
  2. TPM: Go to the 'Security' tab in your BIOS or look for a 'TPM Configuration' option. Make sure TPM (Trusted Platform Module) is enabled and that it's set to version 2.0.
  3. Boot Mode: Ensure the Boot Mode is set to 'UEFI', not 'Legacy' or 'CSM'. This option is usually under the 'Boot' tab.

After making these changes, save and exit the BIOS. If you're unable to restore functionality to Windows 10, you may need to 'Load Optimized Defaults' or 'Reset BIOS settings'. This option is typically found on the 'Exit' tab of your BIOS utility.

Once you've done this, you should be able to boot back into Windows 10.

With a stable internet connection, you can proceed to upgrade to Windows 11 either through the Windows Update (Settings > Windows Update) or by using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool.

Please note that these are general guidelines and the exact steps may vary depending on your motherboard model. If you're unsure, refer to your motherboard manual or contact the manufacturer's customer support for additional guidance.

Remember, changes in BIOS should be performed with care as they can significantly impact your system's functioning.
