Can someone please clearly explain to me what AWS is?
Want to put your web app on the internet? You will need a server to host it on. That server needs to live in a data center with some good networking and security. So you go buy a server and get a monthly contract with a local data center. Your start paying them immediately even though your app isn’t live yet. You haul your server over there, put it in the rack, wire it up, install an OS, set up networking, install your app, and you are done. If you ever need to scale your app, you need to buy more servers, renegotiate your contact, and repeat the above process… Or, you pay Amazon a little bit of money to rent space on one of their servers. They give you an API to create virtual machines on the fly, and you only pay when they are turned on. You can scale your app by creating another virtual machine with a single api call. You never buy any hardware and you never leave your desk. AWS also has a ton of other services you can leverage, all without owning your own hardware. So you can try things out, scale up or scale down quickly and easily. You only pay for what you use, and no up front investment. Make sense? More on reddit.com

r/aws on Reddit: I have no idea about AWS servers, but I need one for my business, What type of server do I need?
September 12, 2023 -

Hello!

I want to upgrade my business and I found a service that I have to connect my "aws access key" and my "aws secret access key" to connect something from AWS to the service I want to use.

From what I can understand, I need an AWS server and I can find these keys through the platform (which is very complicated not gonna lie) and then the application will run on my servers? If so, do specs matter? It's just basic browser tasks so I don't need much stuff. If you wanted to have a few servers with browser tasks what specs would you go for? I suppose we don't need a GPU? Thank you!
