Hi George Graham: What is your Dell computer model, version and OS build number of your Windows 10 operating system [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver - be sure to let us know if you have a Home or Pro edition of Win 10], CPU make and model, and BIOS version? To find your current BIOS version open a Run dialog box, enter msinfo32 to open your System Information, and look for the field named 'BIOS Version / Date' in the summary. Have you recently run a check for updates using a utility like SupportAssist v4.x or Dell Update v5.x to ensure all available updates for your BIOS, firmware and hardware drivers are installed? Please clarify what you mean by 'windows 11 assistant' (e.g., do you mean the Windows 11 Installation Assistant at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11)? Do you know of any reason why Windows Update (Settings | Update & Security | Windows Update) is not offering to install the upgrade to Windows 11? For example, if you have a Windows 10 Pro OS is it possible you configured the Target Release Version (TRV) in your Local Group Policy Editor to Windows 10 / 22H2 to block the upgrade to Windows 11? -----------Dell Inspiron 15 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.6456 * Firefox v144.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.25090.3009-1.1.25090.3001 * Malwarebytes Premium v5.4.2.217-143.0.5407 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * My Dell v2.2.6.0 * Fusion Service 2.2.14.0

Download the latest ISO using the tool, and then install it. All major Windows 11 updates work the same way - they move your data and settings, install a new copy and migrate your settings back.

I had a similar issue, Windows 11, 'Dell Update' just hung while trying to load. The service 'Dell Client Management Service' was not started. Using 'services.msc' to start the service, it failed to start, and it said to use 'sxstrace' to debug. The issue was a something wrong with this file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\UpdateService\ServiceShell.exe.Config I just renamed that file (to '.old'), started the service successfully, then ran 'Dell Update' successfully.

I'm running that same Windows 11 build on my XPS 8930, and Dell Update works fine. The version installed is 4.2.1. I just ran it for the first time in a while and it reports 4 updates. Noting that it says there's also an update for Dell Update (screenshot). What version of Dell Update are you running? Windows 11 preview isn't supported by Dell but the release version of 11 will be.

Dell Latitude 5400 refuses to install monthly win11 updates since june 2025 | DELL Technologies
September 30, 2025 - i'll possibly try a fresh instal with a clean image straigh from M$, perhaps that's the issue, since i've foud out the hard way modified images like the one I currently have in the latitude 5400 do tend to mess up the update system.. as for the gpu driver replacement by M$ causing unintended beavour i can write a whole essay about it, though i've found a couple of solutions for that, some of which M$ already deleted from the internet, yet i still have them backed up, and they still do work. ... Apparently it's a fairly common problem; sorry I couldn't give you something definitive. https://allthings.how/fix-windows-11-updates-that-keep-reverting-and-prevent-successful-installation/

@RoHe Went to Microsoft update online, needed to use self-install update. Update install told me 'This update is not applicable to your computer'. As previously mentioned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I have to start running command prompts and become an IT/Software Engineer, then there is something seriously wrong!!!!!! I don't work in the Software Engineer Industry. Why do I have to get into the system in that way??? Since Windows Vista Jan 2007 I've become sick & tired of being sick & tired of windows incompetence, buggy, flawed & unstable system. It seems that all the time I have to spend (including business hours downtime) researching fixes, is perfectly normal and acceptable! It does seem that everyone has solutions to fix this, fix that! (some don't even work!) When no one mentions WHY you have to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You would think that since the first version of Windows, released in 1985, Microsoft would have designed, developed & produced an OS that was stable with the odd bug now & then (which is acceptable). Makes me wonder what happens at Redmond! I've just bought an iMac, wow, what a difference! Hail to the Mac! As you can tell, I'm at the end of my tether with Windows and all it stands for with its bugs and unreliability reputation. Dell, may I suggest that you add to your Support/Service App a feature that compensates for Microsoft's incompetence. For example, would it be possible that this App could run through the OS 'Update History' and look for missing parts? Thanks for reading my rant.

December 3, 2024 - According to employee DELL-Nat M's 19-Nov-2024 post in jmarsh09's Update Not Working On Support Assist a new version of SupportAssist v4.x will be released soon (the new Nov 2024 release notes have already been posted at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/docs and state the upcoming SupportAssist version will require Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime v8.0.x.) so if you're seeing buggy behaviour with SA v4.0.3 I'd recommend you wait until the next version is officially released and see if that fixes your problem. *** WARNING: I would strongly advise that you do NOT allow a Dell utility like SupportAssist v4.x or Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.x to update you BIOS, since any glitch during the update process could leave your system unbootable.

Windows 11 Upgrade Fails | DELL Technologies
December 20, 2022 - The Windows 11 downloads and installs, but never gets past the bootup screen on restart (i.e. the Dell logo in white on a black background). It automatically uninstalls the upgrade and restarts Windows 10. This laptop has been nothing but a headache. There were a lot of sudden BSOD problems that I resolved through this Board.
