Moving a key value into a nested response object - JMESPath
u/ralphsmith80 Sorry, we currently can't handle this type of structure well, where the object key itself contains important metadata. We plan to add some type of processing logic to extract those keys and treat them as values (similar to what you've proposed above), but in the meantime I think the best you can do would be something like this: {key:quotes.keys(@),value:quotes.values(@)} If you run that with the compact report style, all the keys will be stored in order in the first cell of the output. So if you set your request to send to B1, such that the list of keys is in cell B2, you can then extract them all to a column using a Sheets formula like =index(split(B2,","),0,1) Where it says 1, change that to 2, 3, etc to extract each of the keys. You'll then end up with a table like you originally wanted (you can improve the function by making it an array formula etc, just trying to keep it simple here for the purpose of explanation) More on reddit.com
On performance impact of adding key:value pairs to Array objects
Arrays cannot use strings as element indexes (as in an associative array) but must use integers. Setting or accessing via non-integers using bracket notation (or dot notation) will not set or retrieve an element from the array list itself, but will set or access a variable associated with that array's object property collection. The array's object properties and list of array elements are separate, and the array's traversal and mutation operations cannot be applied to these named properties. source: MDN This means that the actual native array is decoupled from the object it which it is wrapped. There should be no performance loss, it's just really bad practice imo to misuse arrays as associative arrays. It's better to transform your example into: const x = { data: [], test: { foo: 'bar' }, }; This is cleaner (it does not rely on a "weird" JS feature) and less confusing. More on reddit.com

July 21, 2022 - Similar to dot notation, square bracket notation comes in handy when dealing with dynamic keys, but can also work with static keys. Apart from that, it's exactly the same as dot notation both in functionality and performance. const obj = { a: 1 }; const bKey = 'b'; obj[bKey] = 2; obj['c'] = 3; // obj = { a: 1, b: 2, c: 3 } Object.assign() is slightly different than the previous two options. It can be used to add multiple properties to an object at once and it can also shallow merge two or more objects.

Values can be any JavaScript data type: strings, numbers, booleans, arrays, functions, other objects, or null/undefined. Key-value pairs are separated by commas ,.
