I agree with the other posters! ^ It's very possible it's a cooler issue. Although your cooler is rated for 150w, your CPU has a TDP of 125w (at base clocks), it draws much more than 150w at boost speeds, and whilst stressing. In fact it can draw up to 251w (PL2). It's very possible the cooler just isn't adequate enough at high clocks/load. Which Noctua paste are you using? H1/H2 have optimum operating temps between 70-120c, so that paste is good enough. As @hotaru.hino and @dorsai suggested, check cooler is seated correctly. You will obviously have to re-paste. Noctua's instructions suggest best method is to put a pea sized blob in centre of CPU. 2-3mm in diameter. Then seat the cooler. If the cooler has 4 screws, then tighten them in a criss-cross pattern from one corner to the opposite diagonal. This will ensure as you tighten down, you get an even spread of paste. Very High Temps on OCCT Test. | Overclock.net
Ok, so I just did an OCCT test on the default clock: 816MHz and 1.05V. *Edit* For some reason I can't find the result, but the Temps stayed 71 and under. Can that small of an overclock really cause the temperature to jump that high?

r/OCCT on Reddit: Questions about temps in OCCT small/extreme
December 13, 2023 -

I just recently upgraded my CPU to a 5800X3D. My cooler setup is a pretty standard fan setup and a 240 Cooler Master AIO. I've been having normal temps so far (Idle around 50°, Gaming up until 70°) and I decided to do some stability testing to make sure everything's fine.

OCCT Large/Extreme completed with no errors and a maximum temperature of 69° after 1h. As soon as I start a test on the small dataset with the the same settings, I cross the 90° thermal limit I put in my settings, apparently up to 93°.

Is this to be expected? I know the thermal limit for the 5800X3D is supposed to be around 90°, but these temps seem a bit too crazy for my taste. Any anecdotal evidence or help you guys might have?

Yeah I have an old GPU I can try if needs be. I'll see what happens when I remove the RTX from the system entirely and go from there. Haha to be honest, I decided to build this PC not because I needed anything in particular but because I fancied a bit of a project so now I have the means to fiddle with things I may well get obsessed with thermal paste soon too! Yeah, I will definitely get you posted! Thank you so much for your help so far, I've really appreciated having someone to throw ideas at me! No worries, glad to offer help. That's the best thing about TH forum. Everyone bouncing ideas around, learning lot of good stuff as we go along! Love it!

r/OCCT on Reddit: Why does the CPU temp go from 40 to 80 celsius in 2-3 seconds?
March 3, 2025 -

I have been running some stress tests and benchmarks in 3DMarks and there my cpu temp slowly climbs as the test goes on. And I have only ever got it to peak out at about 70 celcius even with their most performance heavy stress test for 20 minutes. However when I tested the CPU test in OCCT the temperature goes from about 40 celcius to about 80 in 2-3 seconds as soon as I start the test? How come and should it do this?

Should I upgrade my water cooler CPU fan OCCT test when errors temps up to 85-90°C and it crashes every time? - Quora
Answer (1 of 4): Maybe. Are you overclocking? While your temps are quite high when you stress test, they’re not reaching a point where many CPUs will throttle. Of course this will vary from CPU to CPU, but still your problem might be that your just being too aggressive with your OC.

OCCT With Four Options - How We Stress Test CPUs
August 16, 2020 - OCCT offers a fairly challenging CPU stress test, which often gets overlooked. It might not generate the massive amounts of heat we measure under Prime95 with AVX, but it’s still a great choice for long stability tests. The software can log a number of important parameters, running in an endless loop or stopping after a defined length of time.

r/buildapc on Reddit: Test OCCT, questions sur la température du processeur
January 27, 2024 -

Voici ma configuration :
Processeur : i9-14900K (+ soyez silencieux ! Silent Loop 2 360 mm)
MOBO : Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE X WIFI7
RAM : Corsair Vengeance DDR5 2x32 Go, 6 800 MHz, CL32 (CMK64GX5M2X6800C32) XMP activé (6 600 MHz)
GPU : Gigaoctet 2070 Super
PSU : taisez-vous ! DARK PUISSANCE PRO 13 1600W

  1. Quels devraient être les scores du processeur non overcolocké au test OCCT ?

Voici mes scores :
00:00:10 - Info - CPU - 1 threads, SSE : 63.36 (3ème à partir de la fin)
00:00:20 - Info - CPU - 32 threads, SSE : 736,29 (5ème ETP)
00:00:31 - Info - CPU - 1 threads, AVX : 65,57 (3ème ETP)
00:00:42 - Info - CPU - 32 threads, AVX : 760,28 (5ème ETP)

Is OCCT's temp monitor accurate? | Overclock.net
But 28°C is 82.4°F. A bit more of a likely story, but that still seems low by a couple degrees. I don't know what OCCT's built-in says. It doesn't move. But it says 37 right now.

r/overclocking on Reddit: 9800x3d: OCCT reports 122C max temperature??
May 3, 2025 -

I've been running prime95 small all cores for the past 17 hours without any issues or errors on that end, while running OCCT only to monitor temperatures and clock speeds. Woke up just now to see OCCT report a max CPU die (average) temperature of 122C. Is this even possible?? Or is this a monitoring issue with OCCT's software? OCCT has been monitoring since I started running P95 and I haven't used the PC for anything else during the test. Does anyone have similar experiences with OCCT reporting crazy high temps like this?

For reference here's my build and oc:

  • CPU: 9800x3d

  • Motherboard: MSI x870e Carbon Wifi

  • Ram: 2x48 Corsair Dominator DDR5 6600mhz CL32

  • Cooler: Tryx Panorama 360mm AIO, using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste

For the oc, I did:

PBO motherboard limits, 10x scalar, +200 boost clock, -15 all core curve optimizer, infinity fabric frequency and dividers set to 2200mhz, UCLK div1 mode set to UCLK=MEMCLK, and my ram set to the tightest timings for 6400mhz (200mhz lower than rated otherwise PC wouldn't boot)
