I was an early user of TIKR. I really enjoy the broad coverage they provide and especially being able to visualize financials and have access to filings for international companies. After I used TIKR and other similar platforms I started building my own: 10kreader.com . If anybody wants to check it out, it’s a fully free alternative. Similar to TIKR you have filings, transcripts, and financials. Financials go back further and you have unique ways to visualize financials like Sankey charts for income statement. I am also building out a DCF modeling feature. If you get to try it out, I would love to get your thoughts and feedback so I can make it better! Answer from azurecap on reddit.com

r/ValueInvesting on Reddit: What is your experience using TIKR as a Bloomberg Terminal alternative?
October 30, 2023 -

Having use this program for 6 months, I find it quite useful for company research. Having not used Bloomberg Terminal before nor being able to afford it, for those that have used both what are the main differences?

I've used the Bloomberg Terminal extensively over the course of a few years. I haven't used TIKR. In my opinion, there is no budget alternative that compares to the accuracy, robustness, and proprietary research that a Bloomberg terminal has. There are competitors that I have heard are comparable in the form of FactSet for research and Refinitiv for data, at comparable prices to a terminal. That all being said, I don't think most people will need the data speed and wide breadth of data provided by Bloomberg. In my eyes, the best alternative is Ycharts. Ycharts is what I now use, and I find it covers everything I need. They, however, don't have proprietary research. So that's what the 20k premium gets you from the above competitors.

TIKR can be thought of as CapitalIQ lite. The underlying data is basically a subset of what CIQ offers. TIKR also doesn't have Excel API afaik. It also lacks integration with brokers, though just getting CIQ or BB won't solve your problems because you'll need to work out entitlements. CIQ, in turn, can be thought of as Bloomberg lite. It lacks the breadth of data, IB and bunch of functionality. But it works if you're just looking for fundamental and pricing data + news / filing links. If all you need are basic fundamental and price data + filings and incomplete transcript access the. TIKR will suffice. What Bloomberg offers is the breadth - not just equities but all kinds of financial instruments, commodities, economic indicators, etc. It basically wants to be your sole source of info. Then there is IB messenger, which if you're a trader / on fixed income desk, apparently is quite important. So no - you can't replace BB with TIKR.

Has anyone ever used tikr? I checked out the free version and its cool but was wondering if its worth paying for? At least the first tier of paid services.

If not, if you had to pay for a service as a retail investor, which would you choose? If you already using one , which is it? Thanks!!

I’m leaving tikr. They changed things up so you can only copy 3 years at a time which is obnoxious. Why the change? No clue, it was an unnecessary handicap. For about 4 months or so they got rid of the copy table button and I reached out twice. They didn’t care. Completely unacceptable for an online business. If they can’t fix a simple copy function then what if something truly goes wrong? They also only keep 10 years of data at a time which is annoying, because as soon as TTM for the new year pops up after Q1, your first fiscal year data disappears. Most of these platforms only have 10 years at a time. Maybe it’s a server storage limitation or to prevent maxing out storage space. Not sure. Looking at finchat or roic.ai as alternatives. Maybe quick FS. My only concern with finchat and roic tis that they appear to be AI based. And if GPT is replaced in 3-5 years what happens with the core of these? Do they switch? Is it seamless? Do they close shop because they can’t take on the switching costs? No clue. But these are cheaper than tikr. I fear that with these screening tools it’ll be a game of hopping trains for a while as the industry competes. You have a lot of redundancy going on with these platforms. Worst case you really like one and after a few years it goes away.

I used the free version of TIKR when it first came out. I believe this was the full version: the company was offering it for free to early subscribers. At the time, I found it offered too little information and value. I have since switched to the paid version of ROIC.AI ($90/year) and occasionally use the free version of QuickFS.net . Overall, I am satisfied with ROIC.Ai However, there are three limitations: Coverage: occasionally, QuickFS or Google Finance has a company not on ROIC.AI . On the summary screen, when showing UK stocks denominated in pound sterling, the graph has a bug. For TTM, ROIC changes from pence to pounds. Thus a stock trading at 250 pence, shows a 99% decline because the TTM shows it at 2.5. I have sent multiple emails and screenshots to the boneheads about this. Unfortunately, they have not fixed this bug. The inaccuracy on (2) makes we wonder about the accuracy of their other information. I can't quite trust the information as presented. It's like Wikipedia: trust but verify.

r/ValueInvesting on Reddit: Best tool for reviewing companies

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a tool to access company financials. I know there are plenty of options out there, like Yahoo Finance and Seeking Alpha, but most free versions have limited data.

I’m considering getting a subscription, but I’m not sure which one to choose. Do you have any recommendations? Which tools are you using, and would you suggest them?

Also, if you know of any good free tools, I’d love to hear about them.

Thanks in advance!

r/ValueInvesting on Reddit: New Screening Tool: TIKR
July 19, 2021 -

Hey guys --

I'm sure some of you have already heard (or use) TIKR.com. They recently launched their global equity screening tool and it is fantastic.

One of my favorite things about the screener is that it scans every global market, which is something you don't find in a lot of online screeners.

What is everyone's favorite screen to run? One of my favorites is looking for high growth stocks that are trading at a reasonable valuation (GARP).

I like businesses that have grown revenues at a 5%+ CAGR, FCF at a 10% CAGR, and trade at less than 30x NTM P/E.

Currently that screen yields 690 results in TIKR.

Interested to hear feedback from y'all!

February 5, 2022 -

I have been using TIKR in the past, but now that they are no longer free i was wondering if there are alternatives with a complete global market like TIKR.

I have used macrotrends before that, but they are not complete and not all companies are captured, unlike TIKR.

So is there an alternative on the same level as TIKR which is free? Or are they the only "good" option for private retail investors?

Thank you in advance guys :)

How do you guys do number crunching/modeling when researching a company?

I have access to GuruFocus, TIkr, and a few other tools. I prefer exporting the data to Google Sheets when I am doing serious number crunching.

With, Gurufocus, I can get a snapshot of the data to Google Sheets, but it doesn't allow continuous sync. (They have an Excel plugin but have limitations to the number of calls. It's almost useless once you have a few companies to track. I need to upgrade to the next tier, which is like $1500, to get unlimited calls. I want to explore other solutions before I do it.)

I am curious to know how you guys are managing it.

I have been getting into investing for the last couple of months and am interested in know which sites do you guys use, free or paid. I will start with mine

Tikr - I think this is the best site that I use, it has transcripts, financial historical data, balance sheets, estimates and a whole lot of other stuff.

Yahoo finance - I use this mainly for news and getting ideas about stocks to look into.

Simply Wall Street - This site presents the data in a really easy to digest way, but I found the screener to not be so good.

QuickFS - A pretty basic site that shows a lot of financial data, cash flow statements and the like for the past 10 years.

Zacks - At first I looked at this one a lot because of the Zacks rank, which is supposed to help give a quick overview about the company, but in my opinion it doesnt make sense a lot of the time.
