What does the Windows 7 End of Support Mean actually?

No more security updates, e.g. any security bugs (which there will ALWAYS be some in complex software such as an OS) will no longer get patched, leaving a playground for malware.

If you use it exclusively offline, it's completely fine, as it's the case with XP as well. If you go online, you're putting your security at risk w/o these updates.

Answer (1 of 7): In my answer, I will ignore “end of mainstream support” and focus only on the “extended support” date, which is the end of free updates. If you count the number of years between the launch of Windows 7 and the end of free updates, you have roughly 10 years — 10/09 to 1/20.
