You will need to use an LED driver capable of 12V DC and most landscape lighting transformers are 12v AC. You can use an AC to DC converter as an alternative option. That said, what size is the gazebo? 24vdc is probably a better option for tape light as 12vdc is limited to about 16.5ft where 24vdc can hit around 60ft for a 1.5w/ft tape from a single side injection (if this is over your head no worries, ask away) And now the honesty moment : for the sake of ease, in a DIY environment. Just go with outdoor string lights. Everyone loves them in exterior environments and they weather better. Get the ones with replaceable Edison type bulbs and pick up 2200k, 2400k or 2700k bulbs for them (lowest watt you see available to you). We want to brighten up our back patio under the gazebo at night, and I'm looking into 12v LED strip lights, which we could run along the inside of the frame around the roof line. But there are just so many options, I'm getting lost and looking for recommendations.
I'd like something that could be wired into our existing 12v landscape lines, even if that means cutting off a provided transformer and splicing it manually. We're also looking for something that could be color-changing via remote (or app). The gazebo itself is 14x20 so to run arounds the full perimeter we're looking at around 70 ft.
The perfect setup would start with the existing landscape lighting 12v line at the bottom of one corner post, connected to the light-strip set, and I'm assuming there would be some "controller" inline for a remote control to "talk" to and control light settings, and then from there start at one corner of the gazebo roof and just wrap around.
Any suggestions for a brand that's well-made, works well, and doesn't fritz out after a single season?

Depending on the type of LED element and the driver circuit, you could either be fine or significantly shortening the lifespan of your lights. If the instructions or markings don't indicate that AC is acceptable then it's probably not.
However, a failure is not likely to be dangerous or cause a fire.
So you have to decide if the hassle of replacing burned out LED lighting later outweighs the hassle of giving it the proper power now.

Led's do care. The breakdown voltage is usually much lower in the forward bias old school prior to Lgas led's would have approx .6v breakdown forward bias and 1.7v reverse bias. In either direction if the heat dissipation capability of the diode was exceeded the led was destroyed so putting a 30ma diode in a circuit backward usually instantly blew the diode. You would need to know the breakdown voltage before trying or your leds may flash and be damaged. ( If you let the magic smoke out they won't work until you can put it back in, find a way to put it back in and you will be rich$)

For anyone who uses string lights while camping, have you had luck finding 12 volt ones for places where electric hookups aren’t available?
We tried solar last year, but they don’t last long, especially when trying to charge on a cloudy day. I found a couple of options on Amazon (we’re in Canada) but they don’t seem to be selling at this time, and one of the sellers’ emails bounced back when we inquired about purchasing a set.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

Why not rig your solar lights to run off the camper battery? The solar output my already be 12 volt. We use fairy lights in the bunks. They're small but run a long time on a couple AA batteries.
