r/1Password on Reddit: Was 1Password ever free to use?
March 2, 2022 -

I’m trying to help a family member with managing their passwords, and as a 1password user myself, I thought why not use this app?

Upon downloading though, it asked me to pay a subscription fee—something that I never did before.

What concerns me is how am I able to use 1password and its features with no restrictions (I have about 94 accounts stored in there)

From what I remember (could be wrong), 1Password was a free app years ago, and I was using it since that time.

I dont necessarily have a 1password account, but it seems like my current vault is synced with my iCloud (or appstore) account.

I tried downloading 1password like I said on a family member’s phone, but the option to sync through iCloud was also locked behind a paywall.

Is my account somehow “lucky” in a sense that I was a pioneer user and got upgraded free? or did something go wrong on 1password’s developer’s end?

r/1Password on Reddit: Free Plan Suggestion!
October 23, 2017 -

I am certain that 1Password have had an enormous amount of feedback about a free plan and I am also sure that they have already considered it. It would just make so much more sense to apply a free plan even limited to one device. It works perfectly on my GalaxyS8+ and I prefer it over other password managers! Just hoping for the future 😁

Honestly, 3$ a month for a password manager this good with support for any device you can imagine is more than justified

You're totally right that free stuff is cool! Still, a free tier doesn't make sense for us, because we'd have to do one of two things to make 1Password free without hurting our business: Monetize with ads/data collection (which we would never ever do, because we're so concerned about your privacy–we don't even use basic analytics for our apps!) Severely limit the free tier so that most users will end up having to switch to the premium tier (which we don't want to do because it'll hurt our reputation, not be super satisfying, and make our happy paying customers have to consider becoming unhappy non-paying customers) Also, I know I say this a lot, but we really do our darndest to make 1Password worth it for you, from beautiful apps to top-notch security to friendly & helpful support. :) Hopefully, $3/month is worth it for adding security and happiness to your life with 1Password, and if it isn't, our sweet gift card deal ($125 for $99) might help out even a little bit more! One final note: if you're not sure if 1Password is worth it for you, you can try out a 30-day free trial without even entering a payment method - https://1password.com/sign-up/ . And be sure to try out the new 1Password 7 for Android beta ( sign up here ) to see all the cool new things, from document upload to an updated design, that are in store for the future.
