September 8, 2024What happened to comedies. It feels like in 2000s, 1990s and early 2010s a lot of comedies came out that became quite culturally relevant, and some iconic. Why is there lack of these kind of comedies, or am I just wrong about that?
Saw something recently either on here or YouTube, that basically said the mid-budget movie has died, not just comedies, studios are no longer interested in them and prefer to go for the big profit franchise movies. So now the mid tier movies that used to fill up the theatres are the preserve of Streaming companies. But they aren't really interested either because a mid tier movie holds its audience for 90minutes, and they want to retain as many subscribers as possible over months or years. It's a shame too, there's so much going on recently that we could use a good 90 minute laugh. More on reddit.com

I recently saw "Loser" (2000) and I enjoyed it a lot. Any films similar? At Halloween time I saw "Jason X" (2001) and "Freddy vs Jason" (2003) and I thought both films captured the Y2K aesthetic pretty well.
