For a keyboard build iam looking at different connectors I like the look of an db9 connector. Can I use this instead of a usb connector. So the protocol will be usb, cable will also be usb. Lmao why is everyone hating on this so hard. USB signals get sent over all sorts of non-standard connectors. As someone pointed out many industrial tooling use ruggedised locking connectors on the equipment that terminate with a USB A on the other. OP - yes this can “technically” work if you create a custom connector for your keyboard and recipient device. My only suggestion would be to fill all the unused pins with epoxy so the cable is somewhat keyed to your custom arrangement. Just reduces the chance it gets plugged into the wrong thing one day. But yes, this will work for a flippin keyboard. If it doesn’t - solder on a normal USB A. You had fun trying.

Are there any adapters to convert USB to a RS-232-C serial port? The only USB to Serial converters I can find have a male USB, but I'm looking for one with a female USB so I can try plugging my USB floppy drive into my Toshiba Satellite T1960CT. Is this just not a thing that exists? Because I can't find any.

its very easy to make one yourself out of the ones you can buy online. but what you're trying to do will not work, floppy drives (let alone USB drives) will not work over serial, and even if they did you have the problem of powering the drive. im not sure if a USB to parallel converter would work, but it at least might work compared to serial which will not work.
