Multiply the hourly wage by the number of hours worked per week. Then, multiply that number by the total number of weeks in a year (52). For example, if an employee makes $25 per hour and works 40 hours per week, the annual salary is 25 x 40 x 52 = $52,000.

What Percentage is Your Take Home Pay Vs. Gross?
Mid-career SPEEA childless bachelor in WA (rough numbers)- Gross $130,000 Fed Taxable Gross $120,000 Total Taxes $32,000 (26.6% of taxable) Total Deductions: $22,000 YTD Net: $76,000 -- 58.4% of Gross General advice applicable to all is to squeeze money into various retirement savings and safety-net savings (Boeing 401k, IRA's, Bank Savings Accounts that you don't touch, etc.) until your Net Pay starts to hurt your lifestyle (in my case, a rough sentiment would be only affording a domestic vacation rather than an international vacation each year, which I'd love to do, but can live without for a few years). I also put away $200/pp into my saftey-net savings account, and generally maintain ~$25,000 (roughly 6 months living expenses), dipping into that for ad-hoc car/home maintenance, or unexpected travel expenses. Apart from the practical effect of building a good retirement nest egg...for young folk who have not purchased a home, had a child, or encountered other lifestyle events, this sets you up to give yourself breathing room down the road. Dial your contribution back from 20% to 15% and voila, you've got yourself a pseudo 5% take-home raise to meet that mortgage or buy those diapers. More on reddit.com

Hello, I’m trying my best to calculate my paycheck for when I work overtime. Ive heard and seen a lot of people misjudge the overtime benefit and calling it a waste of time or whatnot. I see a lot of talk about tax brackets but that would be by year right ? So if I just wanted to know how much I will actually get if I do “X” amount of overtime, what site or formula can I use to calculate it ? Ive tried using paycheckcity.com and it seems to calculate my current payout pretty spot on, maybe like 1 or 4 dollars off but if I did overtime… things would be different ?
Knowing how much exactly I get will help me financially wise in order to make the right decision.
Thank you

The big issue here is that what you make in your paycheck isn't necessarily what you actually make after taxes. Withholdings, or the amount withheld from each check, is based on the gross amount of each check but your actual tax liability is based on your total income for the year. So one check with a bunch of overtime may over withhold ok taxes. It just means you get the difference back when you file your tax return. This is main thing people don't understand and instead, revert to blaming tax brackets. Tax brackets are marginal, which means only the amount you make in that bracket is taxed at that amount. So working overtime isn't going to cause you to make less money after taxes. Any of the paycheck calculators out there can handle just showing you what your check will look like, even with OT. Those aren't complicated formulas. They just aren't going to account for the actual tax difference when all is said and done.
