First and foremost he is a hero. Full stop. What he did was brave and should be commended and I am so glad he is going to recover and is getting recognized for his bravery.

But, I just feel kinda weird that this is the main talking point I'm seeing online.

It's a little crazy that for every post I see about the Jewish community or the Jewish victims or the motivations of the shooters I'm seeing 3 more about his heroism. I get it, it's a hot news headline. "Muslim man saves Jews" is going to generate a lot of buzz especially in this current political climate.

I just feel some type of way about how the Jewish victims have kind of been decentralized from the discourse. Especially in the day and age where the rise of Antisemitism globally has been trivialized, ignored and even written off as "false flags."

There were other people who tried to fend off the shooters as well. An orthodox man threw bricks at one of them.

I think what really drove this home for me is the fact that his go fund me is up to like 2 Million dollars at this point while any I've seen for the Jewish victims, the people who were being targeting for no reason other than committing the crime of being Jewish, don't even have a fraction of that kind of support. They just experienced a hate crime and lost members of their families.

It's obviously not a suffering competition. Just having difficulties putting my feelings to words and wondering what others' thoughts are.

Give me a reality check. Am I being weird? Is this a me problem? Does anyone else have similar feelings? Thanks :)

I don’t know what’s wrong with people who hate Islam. It’s a religion that its people mind their own business. It’s crazy how others treat Islam like killers while Islam countries are the most safest, back to my title, Ahmed is a Muslim guy and some people say that the killer is a Muslim too. Crazy how others treat religion dont focus on these things as much as they focus on Muslims people and people try to convince others that Ahmed is not a muslim and some say that it’s a rare sight of Muslims which is crazy! I hope people focus on their own beliefs instead of showing Islam in a bad image and it’s crazy because Islam is the religion of peace and love

Ahmed Al-Ahmed is actually an Australian national of Syrian origin, several Hasbara and Islamophobic accounts are spreading false information that he is a Lebanese Maronite Christian.

If you compare his heroic action to, say, Tiahni Adamson’s conservation work and environmental campaigning, what’s the likelihood he would get the top gong over someone else who had studied and has worked in an academic field?

Maybe Ahmed could get Local Hero award instead?

If the hero in Australia had shot the nutjob mass shooter in Bondi he wouldn't have got shot himself.

Was that split decision to put the gun down after wrestling it from him, already decided for him? (whilst he was no doubt pumped full of adrenaline and fear?)

If so what decided it?

More his upbringing, his faith, his life experiences? Quantum physics?

To paraphrase the the words of another, Ahmed al Ahmed is a fair dinkum true blue fucken Aussie.
