Ok, so I  tried all the plugging and unplugging stuff, holding the power button etc.  None of that worked.   I went ahead and opened the back plate of the laptop, and disconnected the battery from the motherboard for a few seconds (without unscrewing or removing the battery).  I reconnected it, put the back plate back on, hit power...and IT WORKED!   It was super easy.  Not sure why the Dell tech advised the OP against this?  I am not a techie by any means and don't know my way at all around the actual components of a laptop...so if I can unplug a battery, anyone can. I saw this solution in some other threads as well so definitely try it before calling tech support. Answer from sov76 on dell.com

r/Alienware on Reddit: My Alienware M15 R6 is not turning on
February 23, 2025 -

Hi all ,

My Alienware is not turning on , see video for colored leds start and then sudden shutdown. I have read dozens of posts an articles online but I have not had any luck, here is what I have tried:

  • Disconnected adapter and battery and push power button more than 30 seconds ( I have done this several times)

  • Tried with different DC adapter

  • Got a new battery

  • Changed the DC jack

It seems the main problem is that the battery is not charging and the system is not working either when connected to the DC adapter. When I installed the new battery the system turned on and I was able to use it until the battery discharged .

I do not if this is related, just previously when the battery stopped charging, there was a bios update that was interrupted by power down the computer. I was wondering how a failed bios update made the system stop charging the battery and also the system is not using the DC current when adapter connected. So it might.be just a coincidence. By the way , there is no warranty left from Dell, the support expired for this computer. Any help or clue to fix this will be appreciated.

best regards.

Well, that was all uninspiring. I did have an agent identifying himself as Naman contact me with a private message, who had me hold the power button down for an extended period. Nothing happened - the button stayed lit. Last thing he wrote was: 'Usually after 40 secs the system goes into an RTC reset mode, it should recover it from crash and reboot. Please try it once, like you did before, without any external devices connected including the charger. We could have tried to remove the battery however we do not recommend customers to do it for this particular model. Regards' ...and that was it. Naman stopped responding in private chat. I was not referred to Warranty Repair, or given any incident number. Looking elswhere on this forum it seems I now have a battle to engage in to arrange a return to them a laptop that is less than 2 weeks old.

I was just using the laptop and walked off to the kitchen to do a few things when I came back the screen and keyboard all major lights had gone off. The cable was disconnected and the only light on is the alien head power button showing yellow to demonstrate the cable is disconnected. When I reconnect the cable the light turns back to blue to indicate it’s on but no matter how many seconds I hold the power button it doesn’t change. No sign of coming on or fans moving. Complete silence. It’s a bran new laptop only 3 months old.

October 27, 2021 - Got my M15 R6 on September 21st, fortunately haven't had a single issue yet. Sorry to hear the one you got is a lemon. ... Just had my R9 desktop completely go dead. Hit the power button. Nothing. Not even 2 years old. ... I think I'm late to the party , I had this very same issue when I purchase my own Alienware laptop. For me it will turn on but nothing will appear.

m15 R6, not powering on, #2 | DELL Technologies
April 3, 2022 - Dell are reluctant to ask user to remove Base Cover and disconnect the battery because the m15 R6 battery cable is taped to the battery and the cable is easily damaged. (Removing Base Cover does not invalidate the Dell warranty). The Dell Service Manual says (carefully) remove battery cable and disconnect the battery.

I was using my lap then I shut down since I had some work to do. Came back now and I am pressing the alien head ( power button) but it’s not turning on. I know the battery’s full. Please let me know what would be the issue. It’s been only 3 months and so much issue with this laptop. Wish I had went for another good lap at this price range.

March 12, 2022 - Dell has not been able to figure out a solution for over 5 months.. good luck! ... Thank you! Geez yeah that’s a weird issue to have. 🤞 they can find a fix eventually ... So other things ended up breaking and I ended up sending the laptop back to Alienware and trading for a new one.

So I have an M15R6 and was playing Warhaven when I noticed that the power button started flashing red. It would be like three red flashes then blue then the pattern repeats. At first I thought it was an issue with my charger so I took it out…..only for my computer to shut off entirely.

I’ve since replugged the charger but now my computer won’t turn on. Is it a fault in the battery…?

The device is unresponsive when not connected to a charger. When it is connected to a charger the light pulses for around 5 seconds before turning on. I have left it charge overnight however the issue still persists. The charger itself displays the indicator light to be on.

r/Alienware on Reddit: Alienware m15 R6 battry plug / does not turn on issue

This is my second laptop by Alienware. It run smoothly for about a year, than It started to not powering up. Based on some Dell instructions I had to perform for several times a hard-reset on the laptop, which include unplugging the battery cable from the mother board to drain unwanted statics.

Thing is that now the laptop from time to time do not recognize the battery. I mean, in windows it points that there is a battery and that it's full, but If I unplug the power chord, than the laptop goes off as if there was no battery connected.

I don't know if the battery cable it is all plugged in as factory new. I am attaching some pictures, so If anyone can help me or if anyone knows if it is in the correct position. I just cant remember if it was in that position in the first time I needed to remove it. I tried for several times pushing it further, but it doesn't seem to move and I am to afraid to causing some accidental damage.

Does anyone have a clue here? By the way, about the not powering up thing, does anyone knows if Alienware released something about it? I saw that it's not only my machine and it seems to be a model issue.

That is it, as far as I like Alienware, I really think they should address better those issues. It`s certainly a model defect that should be threated even outside of warranty. My first laptop was an m11x and there was also a hinge issue on this model.

This is the most I can push. Does it should go further? I am afraid to cause damage.

r/Alienware on Reddit: New M15 R6 Issues
December 6, 2021 -

So I got my new laptop end of October, m15 R6 with all the goodies. Really good computer, very fast, impressive boot up and multi tasking and really good screen and pretty good battery life when on the move.

Mid November is the first hiccup. Put it in sleep and noticed the keyboard, power button and lights on the back stay illuminated. Didn't think much of it came back to it a few hours later and no bueno. Was just stuck without being able to start up. Still looked cool with all the let's on. Frustration ensues.Call dell and they answer right away, technical support recommends I hold the power button for various amounts of time. All turns out to be useless. Finally they send me a box to ship it out. I take it upon myself to plug what I can into every USB port (since it still had power) and drain the battery. After everything was drained held the power button for a few minutes to make sure it was completely drained. Plug it and let it sit for 5 minutes and voila, like nothing ever happened. Happy me again.

So a week later I get BF2042 gamed on it for about 6 hours instead of do anything productive and then shut it doen and went to bed (I scared of sleep mode now). Wouldn't light up or anything this time. Nothing when plugged in, or the usb's had no power and it seemed to be completely bricked. Alienware was going to send a tech to my house to replqce the motherboard (which is really nice considering I live in the boonies, 40 km away from the nearest city). Ok whatever I wait a few days and am frustrated because it's the weekend and can't game on my new 3000$ computer. Fast forward 4 days later and I make sure that it's not collecting dust or whatever and figure ah why not plug it in. Plug it in and the whole thing lights up like a Christmas tree and back to normality. Now I'm not exactly happy about this because it's brand new, it's quite expensive and alienware claims to be the bee's knees, but I haven't seen any evidence to support that. I don't want a computer that if I need it for something actually productive I have to wait 5 days for the power to drain because it gets its wires crossed.

I'm currently writing this sitting in my chair spinning around in circles as it is dead or pretend bricked or whatever again. At least it's a pretty decent power bank for charging my phone, but I don't think that's what I paid for.

So besides this long stupid rant, I'm looking for some suggestions as to what anyone would do and also to know if anyone else has had any issues. The tech I spoke to said he replace do the motherboard and it would probably help but no guarantees.

I appreciate any info and sorry for longish story. Have a banana 🍌
